A Hummingbird Hello
A Hummingbird Hello
January’s arctic air blew across the prairies raising havoc in its wake
February winter storms out west are proving just as difficult to take
Epic snowfalls on the ski hills are excellent for alpine sports
Perfect conditions to visit spectacular mountainside resorts
Alas they cause chaos in the city with traffic accidents everywhere
Accumulations on paths and driveways prove a shovelling nightmare
Yet above the urban jungle below the pine tree line
The tiniest of hummingbirds stirred and hovered in the warm sunshine
Awakened from self imposed torpor necessary to survive
The frigid temperatures at night to remain alive
A messenger of joy and jubilation it manoeuvred easily
Amongst the snow laden fir trees a wonderous sight to see
The deciduous plants and trees house food sources for these hummingbirds to eat
Protein packed insects and arachnids natures welcome treat
Anna’s Hummingbirds thrive and flourish in western Canada’s snowy clime
Aerial acrobats to entertain us throughout the wintertime
Another snowfall warning has been declared again today
Let’s hope there won’t be any more before spring returns to stay
