A Canary’s Prayer
I blame my strong medication for this
A Canary’s Prayer
The little yellow canary
Was quivering in her cage
Her owner had bought a newspaper
And she’d espied a page
The headlines were just awful
Filled her with utmost dread
It stated turkeys much too big
As they’d been overfed
Having smaller gatherings
It came as no surprise
Shops couldn’t fulfil commitments
To supply a smaller size
Now she was small and dainty
Just feather, skin and bone
So sang prayers to Santa Claus
Make them leave me alone
She didn’t read the horoscopes
But did believe in fate
Wings crossed she didn’t meet her doom
Upon a dinner plate
