A year ago this evening,
I doubt,
Nobody could say,
The year we were looking forward to,
Would turn out this way,

It’s been a year of lockdowns,
Staying safe and trying to,
Take care of friends and family,
As they would do for you,,

Washing hands and face masks,
Staying two meters apart,
Have become a part of daily life,
And considered smart,

To meet up on the Internet,
Just to keep in touch,
Talking with a loved one,
That you miss so much,

We have come a long way this year,
And I hope that we can see,
A light there in the distance,
When we can all be free,

To meet again in public,
Share a hug, a kiss,
Hold again the people,
You really really miss,

So, as the pubs lay quiet,
No sign of joy and cheer,
I wish all my family and friends
A Happy and Safe New Year.
