Keeping it in the family at King Harold Lodge – Heading
Almost 80 years after being born in the same house, cousins Barbara and Corinne have found themselves back in each other’s company – now as neighbours at Churchill Retirement Living’s King Harold Lodge in Waltham Abbey.
John and Barbara Friggens moved into their one bedroom apartment at King Harold Lodge, after spending 39 years in their three bedroom family home just a mile away.
John explains: “We watched the foundations go down on the lodge and kept a close eye on the build as it began to develop. From our first viewing we felt instantly at home and knew we would be happy here. I was keen to find a place where I could take it easy and not have to worry about maintenance or looking after the garden, whilst the social aspect of living at the Lodge really appealed to Barbara.”
The Friggens’ contentment was apparent during a visit from Barbara’s cousin, Corinne and her husband John who, up until their trip to King Harold Lodge, had not considered moving into a retirement home.
John Stone said: “Barbara and John are obviously really happy here and having lived in our home in Enfield for 18 years we liked the idea of moving somewhere brand new. It was a great feeling to almost start all over again. The team at the lodge have been magnificent – so kind and helpful and have always delivered on everything they’ve promised.
“We’re much closer to our daughter and granddaughter now we’ve moved and its lovely being able to see them more often. We’re both avid bowlers too, so have also joined the local bowls club and have already made some great friends there.”
For the cousins, the move to King Harold Lodge symbolises something of a family tradition. Corinne reflects: “My mother and Barbara’s mother were sisters, and eventually in later life found themselves living side-by-side in a block similar to this. It’s been so special to be able to do the same things together that our mothers did, such as doing the shopping or going on trips. What’s even better is that I can pop out to see my cousin without having to put my coat on!”
King Harold Lodge comprises of 28 one and two bedroom privately owned retirement apartments and shared facilities, designed exclusively for the over 60s. Offering quality retirement accommodation and safe and independent living, the development is in a convenient location close to local shops and amenities. For more information click here
