Brindley Lodge Owners make their garden grow
Green-fingered retirees at Churchill Retirement Living’s Brindley Lodge in Sale have set up a gardening club to share their passion for all things horticultural.
Owners at the development have begun to meet regularly to tend the grounds of the apartments on Hope Road. Joan Shea is one of the Owners who started the project.
She said: “Brindley Lodge has lovely gardens which are managed by a professional gardener, but some of us, along with Anne the Lodge Manager, decided we’d get together to pretty it up a bit. We’ve planted some colourful flowers around the edge of the buildings. It’s really enjoyable getting together and working in the garden.”
Valerie Hicks also joined the club. She said: “I have a lot of plants on my balcony, some in pots I brought with me, others I have picked up from local shops, plus cuttings I have acquired along the way. I love to care for and look after them – they are like pets. The gardening club has allowed me to do a bit more – I love pottering and tending to the shrubs and flower beds. I enjoy working alongside others but mostly enjoy the peace and quiet when working alone; all my life this has lifted cares away and relaxes me.”
Keith Olney, who moved in to Brindley Lodge three months ago has also enjoyed taking part. He said: “I’ve always had big gardens in my previous homes so I was happy to join the club. We meet fortnightly on a Wednesday. We did a lot of planting in the warmer months and we’re still seeing the benefits now – everything is still looking lovely.”
The club will continue to meet on brighter days over the winter and start planning for next spring. Churchill Retirement Living has given a shed to the club so they can store equipment, tools and potting compost.
Alan Perry, Regional Managing Director for Churchill Retirement Living, said: “Owners at Churchill Lodges are very social and active and often set up clubs which allow them to share their favourite pastimes and hobbies. We were delighted install a shed to help the gardening club at Brindley Lodge and we’re delighted with the beautiful display of colour resulting from their efforts.”
Brindley Lodge, located on Hope Road in Sale, is a collection of one and two bedroom privately-owned retirement apartments. Each apartment has been designed exclusively for those in their retirement years and has a number of safety and security features, such as a 24 hour emergency call line and a video entry system, for complete peace of mind.
There is also Lodge Manager, who oversees the running of the development, and an Owners’ Lounge, which can be used as a place to enjoy a catch up with like-minded neighbours, or for holding events.
The development is set in landscaped grounds in a central location, just a short distance from public transport links, shops and all the local amenities on offer in Sale.
