2014 – A year of significant growth for Richmond Villages
Richmond Villages, which designs, develops and operates premium retirement villages across the UK is predicting a significant year of growth in 2014, which will result in a further 260 homes for those over 55, and an additional 120 care home beds.
Following its acquisition by Bupa in August last year, Richmond is set to embark on a period of major construction work at three locations. This begins at its newest village at Letcombe Regis in Oxfordshire, where the development of a final phase of six properties is scheduled to start in January, and is then followed by the construction of new villages at Witney in Oxfordshire, and Aston-on-Trent in Derbyshire.
“This is going to be a very big year for Richmond Villages,” says managing director, Paddy Brice. “After a very frustrating period resulting from the global recession, we can get going again with added drive and enthusiasm thanks to investment from Bupa. This is superb news for our current residents, future residents and staff.
“In addition to 260 new homes being built to meet the demands of the rapidly growing and ageing sector of the community, these three new developments will create some 300 new and permanent jobs,” he added.

Richmond Villages – the ethos
Richmond understands that the sense of community, social interaction, physical activity and mental stimulation are vital to a happy and fulfilling later life. Its villages are designed to allow residents easy access to a range of facilities, services and social events with the reassurance of on-site care and support if required.
The villages provide three types of accommodation, from large two bedroom apartments offering an independent lifestyle, one bedroom Assisted Living apartments, to 24-hour nursing and dementia care. The key element is for people to retain as much independence and choice as possible, whilst helping them retain their ‘zest for life’.
Typical village accommodation
Village apartments
Village apartments are large one or two bedroom apartments comprising a fully fitted kitchen, large sitting room, master bedroom with en-suite and second bedroom, most with en-suite. Personal care can be provided by Richmond’s own on-site domiciliary care team.
Assisted Living apartments
These apartments are situated within the main village centre building and are designed to help people maintain their independence. Apartments typically include a sitting room, kitchenette and en-suite bedroom. To remove the daily chores, these apartments come with an ‘Independent Living Package’ which includes all food, daily cleaning, laundry and utilities, meaning you can spend more time doing the things you want to do and maintain your independence. Personal care packages are available from Richmond’s own domiciliary care team.
Care bedrooms
There are also large en-suite care bedrooms located in the care home within the village centre building to provide nursing and dementia care. The care home also has its own restaurant and lounges, but the advantage of a Richmond care home over a conventional nursing home is that it is situated within the heart of a social and stimulating community with a wealth of things going on.
