Should Londoners choose if they want to use Uber? The issue with Uber as well as other cab and taxi companies throughout the UK (not just London) is safety, insurance and compliance with public safety. TfL have stated that if Uber were to submit themselves to the same safety standards that every other taxi/cab company has to adhere to, they do not have an issue with them. The problem lies simply in that Uber refuses to adhere to safety standards which are there for the customers piece of mind. Put simply, would you want your teenage daughter driven home by someone that does not pass a current DBS/CRB check? Would you want to be carried in a vehicle that may not be insured correctly? TfL is not there to stop competition. As with all local authorities involved with public transport licencing, it is there to protect you, the customer. It's not there to get you home on the cheap! You pay for what you get in this world.ViewDate:

Book Lovers Day: 15 signs your reading addiction is out of controlAgree. I also have a Tablet PC with several reading apps installed on it so that I can get ebooks at the best price as they can vary so much from seller to seller. I also have the Overdrive app which means I can borrow ebooks from my local library.ViewDate:

Book Lovers Day: 15 signs your reading addiction is out of controlAn Addition to #13, buy a kindle so you can carry that as well. And #14, make sure the bag has enough space to carry kindle plus cables and plug. They say 8 weeks of reading in the blurb but who only reads for half an hour a day?ViewDate:

DAB Radio adviceAccording to their website, Classic FM is broadcast in DAB. It may well be a poor reception where you live. http://www.classicfm.com/radio/how-to-listen/dab-digital-radio/ViewDate:

Streaming TV/On Demand TVI would certainly recommend that you get rid of the Virgin package if you only watch programmes that are available on Freeview. Their latest boxes also include a lot of catch-up features too. Most of us don't really need high speed cable internet either. You will only need high speed cable if there are several of you in the family all using the internet at the same time, I have a normal, what many people would call slow internet, they guarantee 8mpbs but I regularly get up to 20 mpbs. I can watch On Demand TV/Netflix/All4/ITV etc without any buffering. It is a lot cheaper than cable and there are plenty of providers that offer that in conjunction with landline phone deals.ViewDate:

Streaming TV/On Demand TVI have to agree with you that there is quite a bit of rubbish on there too, I have a total of 12 chanels installed on my Roku, 2 are music which I do use almost as much as the On Demand programmes. I also imagine that my choices for entertainment rarely involve sitting in front of a TV simply watching it and being entertained by it. I read an awful lot. As already mentioned I listen to music and have quite a big music collection. I also enjoy the internet, it could be using sites like SilverSurfers or Facebook, twitter and blogging sites though I don't write blogs myself but do enjoy reading some of them. I often find my evening has gone before I even think of the TV so paying for a licence would be wasting £149 of my meagre budgetViewDate:

Why not use LinuxThe Linux Mint attack was aimed at it's download sever and was spotted and acted upon relatively quickly with little or no affect to the vast majority of users. Also, it was not a virus attack in the usual way and needed no extra anti virus installed by the end user. Yes, Linux is not immune to attack but it is far more secure than Windows.I'm not going to copy everything here but the following link is to the Ubuntu Community Guide and expands on the reasons that for 99% of users, there is no real need for antivirus/malware to be installed. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AntivirusViewDate:

This Forum SoftwareYes, I read through the guides and help pages and that does make it easier, it's just the way the forum builds itself when a new topic is added and then commented on. In truth it is probably my problem and I'm sure with regular use I'll get used to it :)ViewDate:

Streaming TV/On Demand TVI do not watch so called 'live TV' I only watch On Demand programmes. In other words after they have been shown on the network. Also, I cannot use the BBC iPlayer as again I have to have a TV licence to use this service. I can also watch DVD's without a licenceViewDate:

Why not use LinuxGreat post! I've been a Linux user for years and can't recommend it enough. I tell all my friends to use Linux and tell them to use Ubuntu although Linux Mint is great if you prefer the Windows 'feel'. The best thing about Linux is you don't need expensive anti virus or anti malware software running in the background slowing everything else down. Why everyone doesn't use Linux is beyond me!ViewDate:

What book are you currently reading?Hi all, recently joined and am still finding my way around but I checked out any reading/book topics first :) I'm currently reading The Ice Princess (Fjällbacka #1)by Camilla Läckberg, Steven T. Murray (Translator) on the Overdrive app on my tablet. I've recently read: Red Dwarf Omnibus: Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers & Better Than Life (Red Dwarf #1-2) by Grant Naylor in paperback Coyote by Allen Steele in paperback Dragonflight by Anne McCaffrey on Kindle. I enjoy reading in both electronic and hard copy formats. I have no preference other than cost of the book. -
