Would you be prepared to pay more tax to fund the NHS?I don’t understand why in patients are not asked to pay £2/3 per day for their meals. They would have to buy food at home. This could raise a lot of money for the NHS from the people using it, and not have shortfalls met by all taxpayers. I don’t pay tax, by the way, but I would be willing to pay for hospital meals.ViewDate:

Do you feel lonely?I miss the short breaks and holidays with a partner, but find my own company suits me most of the time. I can do whatever I want to do, and there are no boundaries unless I create them. I know I have to push myself at times to do things, but I stay strict with myself as much as I can. No one is going to knock on the door and do it for me. I can choose to sit alone, and let loneliness take over, or I can push myself and enjoy the fruits of my labours. I have been on my own for over 2 years now, and already am feeling that I could easily get used to this.ViewDate:

Incorporating tai chi into your lifestyleMy father used to say that the mind can heal the body, and I am a great believer in this. Meditation is good, but doesn't have to be done like clockwork. What we tell ourselves has great impact on our lives. Our brains are like powerful computers, what we tell ourselves creates pathways. These can be good or bad, depending on our thoughts. Press too many buttons, and we will crash. A mantra, said on a regular basis, is very helpful. My own is REPAIR, RESTORE, RENEW, and I say this every morning as part of my getting ready for the day. Whether it helps me psychologically, or physically - who cares, as long as it works.ViewDate:

Peter's Gardening Tips for FebruaryMy wisteria, that had been planted before I moved here 17 years ago, died last year. It just went brown. It had always flowered well. I don't know whether it was disease or water logging as I am in the fens. Clay soil and very wet. Any suggestions?ViewDate:

Positivity, hope? where is it?Having lost my husband, and 2 daughters over several years, I find Christmas hard. I do have another daughter, who is happily married, but her life has, also, been marred by our losses. It has been many years now, but I still miss them, but it is now bearable-a way of life. I live new year, though, it always seems like a new school exercise book with all the blank pages waiting to be written upon. Don't dread the future, that will rob you of your present! Live each moment as best as you can. Time ripens all things.ViewDate:

NewbieHullo, I'm new also. I have played words with friends for the past few years, and notched up over 2000 wins (and about the same losses!). I'm trying to talk myself into a walking holiday that caters for singles, but I'm still thinking about it! Don't know what this site has got to offer, but I'll give it a go.ViewDate:

Should Parliament have the final say on Brexit? We can't keep having referendums until the result is as they want it. We voted out, it was a public vote, and should be honoured.ViewDate:

Why not write a book?I would be too worried that I was printing things that should be edited out, i.e. Chemical names and their dangers, highlighting flaws in care schemes, etc. , and I may be sued.ViewDate:

Have you written your own book? Thanks for that. I'll take a look, but didn't want to self publish really.ViewDate:

Have you written your own book? There is a sort of satisfaction, but, to write it the pain must be faced again and again. That can be quite hard.ViewDate:

Have you written your own book?I finished my autobiography, dealing with various tragedies in my life, a few years ago. Now and again I submit it, but don't think I'm going about it in the right way. I have had it returned with letters from the publishers expressing their positive thoughts about it, but they say it is not a genre they deal in, and then just wish me luck. Andrew Lownie sent a note saying he found it a deeply moving, poignant story, and then wished me luck. 97,000 words that remain in my desk. Help!ViewDate:

New to SilversurfersDon't really know what to expect. I have just this minute joined, on an impulse, plus it's free to join! I am lonely at times, although having said that I seem to avoid socialising. I have been on my own for 2 years, and when I get down days, they are really down. Today is one of them, and that's how I've found myself here. This or the Samaritans! -
