The Enigmatic catLoved it - and so typical of cats. It has long been said that you don't "own" cats - you "serve" them!!ViewDate:

The 60s ... What did like best about the 60s?I left my kids outside many shops without a care or worry.... I get frantic now if my great granddaughter is out of my sIght for 2 seconds in public places. Definitely a different world now!ViewDate:

The 60s ... What did like best about the 60s?I wasn't brave enough to go straight for the Woodbines, I broke myself in gently with Consulate!ViewDate:

Serendipity?I came first.... but that's not as grand as it sounds, as there were only 7 entrants On reflection, I suppose there were some elements of truth in the story, mostly attitudes towards dying patients, from their loved ones. As a District Nurse for 38 years, as you can probably imagine, I experienced the scenario, many times, where patients and their kin, just wanted to see an end to their suffering.ViewDate:

Serendipity? Thanks for your comments Kes. It was a piece that I wrote for a competition and we were given the topic " You have killed someone by accident". I thought everyone would be going for the obvious, like a car collision or similar, so wanted to go for something different. My friend is very much alive and well, so rest assured, all fiction!!ViewDate:

What are your favourite travel destinations and why? We've been to quite a few places but our favourite has got to be Elounda - a small fishing village in Crete. The people are so friendly - the food is good and the scenery just can't be beaten. When we go back now - it's like going home, as we have so many friends there........ if only I could bottle my view from my balcony and bring it home with me.ViewDate:

Tea in the War!I wasn't born til after the War - in 1951, but there were many times we had bread and jam for tea..... or maybe bread and dripping - and if we were really lucky, we managed to get to the jelly bits first!!ViewDate:

To Victor!Your beautiful poem brought tears to my eyes. Now I've retired, I volunteer 1 day a week, for our local Archives. At the moment, I am transcribing records from the WW1 years - so there is quite a lot covering the pits and steelworks. Only this week, I transcribed a letter about a harness material sample that was being turned down as unsuitable for the pit ponies, as it wasn't smooth enough and would rub their necks. So reading your poem so soon after this - it really moved me.ViewDate:

The 60s ... What did like best about the 60s?Hearing my Mum say "You're not going out wearing that skirt, my girl, it's no bigger than a belt!" Now I look at some of the fashions today and I think "OMG they're never going to town wearing that" ....... full circle methinks!!ViewDate:

Winter in the fiftiesYes - I had a few. My Mum was quite a prolific knitter - but not so hot on the sewing together bit..... so I very often wore cardigans with button holes not matching where the buttons were.ViewDate:

Winter in the fiftiesI loved my liberty bodice. I wasn't at all concerned with fashion as a little girl and just loved how warm and cosy it was. In the depth of our Winters, when there wasn't any double glazing or central heating around - every little thing that helped keep you warm was very welcome.ViewDate:

Hi folks.....new to the siteHi Kapparis - I'm new to the site too - so I'm just finding my way around. I'm living in Cardiff, Wales and I wouldn't say that I'm hopping on planes all the time, but with my daughter, who, like you, is a teacher, we visit a couple of times a year. She took up a teaching post on Alderney, one of the Channel Islands, 5 years ago so we enjoy our visits there. It's a lovely little island and the pace of life is very chilled, so we usually come home refreshed and relaxed.ViewDate:

Does anyone else play the Ukulele?I don't play - but my daughter is a keen ukeleleist and had a little group going here in Cardiff (Wales). When she moved to take up a teaching post in Alderney - one of the Channel Islands - she started a group there and it's really thriving now with about 15 members.ViewDate:

Windows 10 does anybody use it?I took the plunge and downloaded it about 3 months ago. After some initial teething problems with the keyboard (when I wanted an asterisk - it was typing a percentage sign - or similar). Someone suggested that the US version of the keyboard had been downloaded instead of the UK version - I corrected that and have been using it without any further real problems. I don't find navigation as easy - the first time I wanted to power off - I had a bit of difficulty finding my way to do this - but once found not too much of a problem - lots of little niggly things like this, but nothing major.ViewDate:

Barometer Survey shows the over 50s have strong views about BrexitNot keen on the wording used "and women are twice as likely to be undecided" This wording seems to indicate that us ladies, are living up to the world's previous stereotypical view of women (that we can't really think for ourselves). Had the wording been "and women are twice as likely to be undecided, at the moment" - this would make all the difference - as it would imply that we are mulling all the possibilities over, before making a reasoned opinion on how we intend to vote. The fact that more men have already made their decisions - may mean that they have just not bothered to consider all the facts and have just gone ahead and made a snap decision. -
