Do you bank online?I have been been virtually forced into online banking as Halifax Bank has withdrawn paper services and are now closing our local branch, this despite there always being several customers using it whenever I pass by which is regularly. I am very lucky that my son is able to manage my accounts but I am looking into changing banks when I can find one which will be keeping a branch in my town.ViewDate:

Bereavement lonelinessI am recently bereaved after almost 60 years of marriage. We travelled a lot and I find it difficult to contemplate holidaying alone, also really miss conversation on anything and everything as my husband and I had a wide variety of interests and loved to laugh.ViewDate:

Moving alone at 63Like you I am contemplating moving to a new area having been very recently widowed. I am almost 82 and like you very fit. My advice is don't just look at properties, visit the area and check on things like public transport (the time may come when you have to stop driving) local library is a great place to find out about clubs and activities and if you do make the move and join something you will find that you will soon make friends, if people don't chat to you very much the first time just keep going and you will soon be recognised as one of the group. I was a military wife for 32 years so have a lot of experience moving to new places. Good LuckViewDate:

Over 50 and tired of travelling solo? Find holiday companionsI am recently widowed and miss travelling with my husband. I would love to meet someone in similar circumstances to enjoy holidays together. I am 81 but very fit, love to laugh and enjoy a good social life. I am based in South WalesViewDate:

Should menopause be classed as a disability?Women have survived the menopause for millions of years without screaming that they want it recognised as a disability. Sure it can be an inconvenience but certainly not more so than the monthly menstruation so I ask is the next phase will there be a demand that women should be recognised as being disabled once a month. Hot flushes are a nusiance but not a disability. The most sensible solution is to keep active mentally and physically and stop fretting about it.ViewDate:

Is the digital world excluding older people?Yes I have many friends who like myself are in their 80s and are finding it very difficult to access banking services in particular because all the banks are closing branches and suggesting that people use the Post Office for basic banking transactions such as drawing cash, however the post offices are also closing which means that avenue is often no longer available. I am fortunate in being reasonably computer literate but still enlist the services of my supertechie son to deal with online banking.ViewDate:

Do your Royal Mail deliveries currently meet your expectations? When we lived in a country village our mail was regular and reliable now I live in the suburbs there seems to be delivery only every 3 days. I just got a cheque for a small tax rebate and almost a week later the letter arrived to tell me it was due. My friend who lives only a couple of miles from me got a Christmas card yesterday which I had posted first class on December 19th which she said was clearly shown on the post mark. The Royal mail seems to be following the same line as the bank just make everything as difficult and unreliable for the public as possible.ViewDate:

Do you feel comfortable with online banking? We are all being forced to use online banking whether we like it or not, all the banks are closing branches and in some towns not a single bank remains, it is virtually impossible to talk to anyone and if you use phone banking it takes forever to get through and then you are first speaking to a robot who may eventually allow you to actually have a conversation with another human. Banks no longer see themselves as having to provide a service to those who pay their wages but see us simply as a pest to be brushed off.ViewDate:

Was leaving the EU a mistake? We voted for a Common Market but were not asked if we wanted to become governed from Brussels by greedy lawyers and politicians who had been failures in their own country. Unfortunately we still haven't got the freedom we hoped for.ViewDate:

Is sleeping in separate beds the beginning of the end?I am a very restless sleeper so much so that my late husband used to say that if I predeceased him he would have the inscription "Now bloody fidget" engraved on my tombstone. After 45 years we decided on twin beds and found it far more comfortable.ViewDate:

Have you switched supermarkets for your main weekly shop? Now I no longer drive I have started to shop online which is very sucessful. I find that Morrisons is the most suitable supermarket for my needs as I live alone and they will deliver orders of £25 or over whereas Tesco and Asda need orders of £50 and £40 respctively before they will deliver. Supermarkets seem to think that household consists of 4 or more members but there is a rise in single person households and it would be a good idea for the supermarkets to consider this.ViewDate:

Should assisted dying be legalised in the UK?I see no reason why a bunch of politicians should have the right to decide. Quality of life is surely the most important factor and providing that a person is of sound mind or has already made a written statement of what their wishes are then assisted dying is a sensible and humane option when the time comes that there is no quality. We do not subject our beloved animals to months or years of misery when they are suffering.ViewDate:

Do you support the vote for Nurses to go on strike over pay?Cut the overpaid management executives, bring back the S.E.N. nurses to undertake the basic day to day patient care so that the SRN nurses can do the more technical jobs, pay them properly and perhaps then people would not be waiting years for operations.ViewDate:

Will you send Christmas cards this year in view of postal strikes and increased postage costs? It is noticable that there are fewer cards this year, young people tend to send their Cristmas wishes online or talk to friends and family on Christmas Day. I think the custom of sending card is gradually dying out like so many other traditions but I still like to send and recieve a card.ViewDate:

Do you believe school meals should be free for all children?People have child benefit to help feed and clothe their children not to provide themselves with the latest mobile phone or another tatoo. I have heard people on the bus talking to friends about visiting the Foodbank and a couple of sentences later saying they are on their way to the nail bar to get their nails done. My case restsViewDate:

Would you like to have a White Christmas?Hate the snow, I remeber 1947 and being snowed in for 6 weeks. We were a dairy farming family and lost a lot of money as the lorry could not get through to collect the milk. We were luckier than mixed or sheep farming as they lost a lot of animals which was not only a financial but emotional strain.ViewDate:

Should Scotland be an independent country?Yes let them have their independence on condition that they do not expect England to give them financial support and perhaps England should have a vote asking if we want to be joined to Scotland after all there are two sides to this. Historically Scotland has always favoured France over England "The Auld Alliance" so Europe is the place for them if Europe will have them.ViewDate:

Would you like to see imperial measurements return?I still use imperial measures and have no intention of kow towing to the EU. I always say to traders "You are forced to sell me items in metric but I have the right to buy them in imperial." I write monologues for fun and the one I wrote featuring a mother on the telephone to her son asking for translation of a cake recipe from metric to imperial went down very well with a social group I attend. especially the bit that said 2 eggs and she says Oh well even the French can't mess that up.ViewDate:

Speakers Corner CommentsWhy do TV presenters and others working in the media seem unable to use correct English. Small amounts of liquid are drops not bits yet there is frquent reference to bits of rain or in cookery programmes "bits" of milk are added to recipes. We also have "Pressies" for presents, mixed groups or groups of all females being addressed as "Guys", these are jusst a few examples. We also have "If you was instead of if you were."ViewDate:

Do you think cannabis should be decriminalised in the UK?Sadiq Khan is an idiot, many cannabis users move on to hard drugs and with all the knife crime in London much of it gang related he would be far better to support the police and get law and order back on the streets instead of pandering to the underworld.ViewDate:

Should police be more lenient with shoplifters during the current economic crisis? No it would encourage people to think that stealing is OK and possibly lead on to them committing other crimes. It is time that people realised that they have responsibilities as well as rights but this attitude seems to have gone.ViewDate:

Should smacking children be banned across the UK as a whole?I was on a bus journey some months ago and a young woman got on with 3 children, these children started to run up and down the bus from seat to seat, the driver had to brake very suddenly and one of them fell in while running around. The mother immediatly began shouting at the bus driver. In earlier times before kids became totally out of control the child would have been given a quick slap and told that it served him right.ViewDate:

Speakers Corner CommentsIn Wales a ban on smacking children has just come into force, it will be interesting to see how this can be policed and if your toddler is about to put her/his hand ino the fire shouls you tap it to stop the action or reason with toddler who will no doubt continue to put hand in fire. Will we end up with a generation that is totally undisciplined and oblivious to the rights of other people. There is a great difference between a quick tap on the hand or legs and a beating and most parents are well aware of the difference. Those who pass these laws no doubt have a Nanny to care for their offspring so know nothing about sensible parenting. as they only see their children at times which suit them.ViewDate:

Are you ever too old to own a pet?. I am 79 and my husband 81 and having lost our 18 year old cat thought long and hard about having another one. Th house was so empty without a cat that we contacted Cats protection and adopted 7 year old Jasmin, we are aware that she could outlive both of us but she will have a home and be loved for as long as at least one of us is around and our son has promised to take her if it becomes necessary. The Cinnamon Trust in Cornwall is a wonderful charity that cares for pets whose elderly owners have died and they also have a list of Care Homes that allow Pets. Another excellent way of protecting your pet cat is to sign up for Cat Guardians another charity that ensures pets are cared for. I would say you are never to old to have a pet.ViewDate:

Are you able to get a face-to-face doctor appointment?Dentists, Opticians, and Podiatrists are all seeing patients during the pandemic albeit with extra precautions but GPs seem to have disappeared completely and telephone or internet consultations are less than satisfactory. Drs appear to be offloading more and more work onto local pharmacies. I am aware that there ids a shortage of GPs so why are young people studying medicine not given grants instead of student loans on condition that after qualifying they spend 5 years as a GP.ViewDate:

Do you believe the Assisted Dying Bill should be passed?Everyone should be able and indeed encouraged to write a document similar to a will and witnessed legally stating under what circumstances assisted dying should be given. We make the decisions for beloved pets to be put to sleep when life has become a burden to them and the same compassion should be applied to humans.ViewDate:
