Set yourself a new goal for LentQuit smoking a pipe years ago, had to stop drinking all alcohol 10 years ago, can't possibly give up Facebook so will do something positive - continue with mastering the computer and give my sons a break from continually asking, "How do I do......?"ViewDate:

Are you drinking more or less alcohol as you get older? Not drinking any at all now due to a stomach problem. Not forbidden, but safe limit so small, not worth the risk. Same goes for aspirin and NSAIDs.ViewDate:

What are you reading at the moment?Tokyo Station by Martin Cruz Smith. Very interesting despite knowing the historical perspective err I'd and what is going to happen in world terms. Interesting view of Japanese culture but makes the story very slow moving. Interested in seeing how it all works out and wondering if some parts are true or fiction. Bargain buy at a charity second-hand bookstall.ViewDate:

What book are you currently reading?Finished When Night's Were Cold by Susana Jones. Not a straightforward story as it changed from present, past and imaginary without warning. Once I got into it it was very compelling. Strong characters, well drawn, if a bit stereotyped. Funny thing was I could see them as some of the people we all meet in our own lives. Good story and well worth reading.ViewDate:

What book are you currently reading?Just finished reading Michael Palin's The Truth. Interesting but it took me quite a while to get into it, then ended up having to answer a very pertinent question for today's society. How do we deal with the truth? Now started reading When Night's Were Cold by Susanna Jones. Quite different from my normal reading choice. Not sure how it will turn out. Both books borrowed from the mobile library.ViewDate:

What are you reading at the moment?Finished reading The Truth by Michael Palin last night. Took me a while to get into the book. At first I thought it might be more of a travelogue than a novel but about halfway through there was a change of direction, a bit of action, and the promise of more to come. Still not sure how to rate The Truth. It jumps about a bit, there are some sudden changes of direction but it left me thinking about truth and our society. I suspect that that was what Palin intended.ViewDate:

Have you written your own book?I have just self-published my second novel, a slightly fictional version of a true story. The most important thing is to get your manuscript proofed. I did this with the first draft but then by the time I got to the final one I had made alterations and added 5,000 words. I checked it several times myself only to be told by friends who bought the book that there were a number of typos and even a wrong name. Result, the second edition has now replaced the original one. Great reviews despite the mistakes with 4 & 5 stars. Already Lost and Found has outsold The Cost of Kindness.ViewDate:

Kindle vs BookI have a kindle and use it on holiday and at home for books I see on Amazon. I also use our local mobile library to borrow books. There is a danger that it may be withdrawn in the constant attempts to cut costs. Hope using it will help to.keep it going.ViewDate:

Hi from ScotlandMy wife and I took the tram earlier this year. We travelled the whole route and returned after looking around the airport. Very smooth, comfortable ride. Not cheap so we used the bus for other journeys, but then the bus is free as we have free travel passes.ViewDate:

What book are you currently reading?Currently reading The Truth by Michael Palin. At first it seemed to me that there was no clear plot. Was it about writing a book, the main character's personal life, travel, or saving the planet. I kept reading but was not caught up in it. Last night that changed, suddenly I wanted to know more. Would the book be written and would the reader be challenged to become involved with the issues facing the environment? Now I look forward to reading to the end.ViewDate:

If a referendum was taken tomorrow on our EU membership how would you vote and why?Having been a supporter of Scottish Independence since I was a teenager, I can assure you it has nothing to do with dissatisfaction with the UK gonernment, but everything to do with making our own decisions. Scotland is a nation, not a region of the UK.ViewDate:

What book are you currently reading?I am just about to finish 'The Reader', paperback edition which I borrowed from the local mobile library. Have enjoyed it very much and despite the beginning, it becomes a very thought provoking read. I have a Kindle and have obtained some of my old university books for free. Have also published my first novel as an e-book through Kindle. Others tell me they have enjoyed reading it. Not allowed to advertise here but can I say my name is Alistair Dunlop?ViewDate:
