Abolish council taxI agree, if you use facilities, pay for it. The problem with poll tax was collecting it.ViewDate:

Should the government backtrack on the Winter Fuel Allowance ruling?I also think it should be done but not this way as, we can see from the comments, it's those people caught in the middle. I may be naive, but perhaps it could be aligned with the tax office, only those who pay over a tax threshold losing out. It can't be hard to liaise between these departments, with today's technology,? Or can it!ViewDate:

Do you prefer your chocolate from the fridge or at room temperature?Definitely from the fridge, I can’t stand soft, warm chocolate. It also needs to be dark. During lockdown our daily treat in the evening has been two After Eight mints with coffee.ViewDate:

Free TV licence for over-75s to be means-tested from August 1John I believe that could be an acceptable compromise if nothing comes of negotiations. I am sad to be losing my free licence but am in the fortunate position of being able to afford one. However, there are many who aren’t. Of course, there are many who can as well! The cost of a full means testing system is expensive and I have wondered if a simpler method could be used by tying up with HMRC. If someone pays tax, they can pay for the licence. However, as we know, there are always people who fall through the cracks.ViewDate:

Should over 70s be banned from voting on the country's future? Most oldies do not harp back to how it used to be. Because we have lived longer we have seen and experienced consequences of certain decisions and actions that the youngsters cannot know know or understand. It gives a balance to arguments.ViewDate:

Should all pensioners over 75 be entitled to a free TV licence?Difficult one as my husband is just about 75. I think the BBC is being picky considering what they pay their ‘celebrities’. They do produce some excellent dramas and documentaries though. However, I am lucky and it wouldn’t make a huge difference to us but it would to a lot of people. The problem is it would cost more to means test pensioners than it would save. Linking it to benefits is one thing but there are many people not on benefits who would feel the pinch. Who would carry out a means test and who would pay for it in the end!ViewDate:

Should we use Happy Holidays instead of Happy Christmas?Happy holidays is American so please let it stay there. If you stop saying it at Christmas then you have to stop saying Happy Easter too. There’s a lovely Muslim lady who i see every day in my town selling The Big Issue and at Christmas she dons a Santa hat and wishes everybody Happy Christmas......that’s how it should be.
