MayaMac's bio
I work as a canine behaviourist & trainer (self employed) and at the same time moving (albeit slowly) along the route to PhD. I love my work, the study and the challenge.
I have also written several books.
I am 60 this year (2020) and the current state of the world and enforced reflection has made me realise the importance of connection, not only with my animals or with people as clients and associates but as friends too. -

Are you happy to remain opted-in for organ donation?Whilst I am anti the you’re-in-till-you-say-you’re-out model in this instance I do agree. If people feel so strongly their organs should not be used after death then they will actively ensure they have opted out. This method captures the shoulda-woulda-couldas and those who are unlikely to make an active choice as well as those who simply do not care. Cannot see anything wrong in it at all and should only be viewed as an infringement of rights if one is unable to unsubscribe to the process.ViewDate:

Pen palsHi sorry for belated reply I have not been on for a while. I notice further down you are not going to check posts... I hope you do or you will miss my belated and sorry-looking response. I tend to have a lot of irons in the fire (even or especially - at this time as I need to be busy I am one of those types - and I am doing a lot of pro bono work with clients online whose animals are upset with the new regime in the home and this again will change and separation anxieties kick in when people return to the norm (if indeed they do). Anyway will stop warbling on here incase you do not see this - again apologies for late response. MxViewDate:

"really" making new friends!Hi yes I think on the whole it has although I can think of better ways... that being said I do reflect on how things will be when things move on and the 'new normal' kicks in. That being said, Silversurfers is a cabby site and I am so glad I came upon it. I am sure you will enjoy it too.ViewDate:

Just checking in!Hi Wilf my PhD is on Canine Psychology. I work my practice and study simultaneously so whilst the current situ hasn’t affected study so much in terms of my business I have been unable to work. I really miss it too. Pointers are wonderfully gentle souls. I recently worked with a nervous girl rehomed to a rural couple. The first time she was off leash she was so overwhelmed she stopped to point every few yards! She is doing really well now under a gentle hand and is living her best life, which is how all dogs should live.ViewDate:

Just checking in!Your upcycled terriers sound adorable and probably keep you on your paws I live fairly close to an airport (well two in fact) and the decline in your industry here has been palpable unfortunately - of course who knows what will happen post CV-19 at any rate. In terms of my own business when I do open the appointment book again, there is no gauge as to how clients will respond... eek. Can’t be worrying about that one tho. Sorry for the wee ramble there, to answer your question how I am coping with lockdown, suffice it to say thank DOG for Messers Nutty and Kai who still require nay demand an established routine How do you cope?ViewDate:

Pen palsHi I thought I had replied to this via my phone but it has gone disappeared so I will try again... hence the reason I like the old pen and paper :) I have no children and therefore no grandchildren so I would love to connect with young people if they would like to write to an old fogey!ViewDate:

Does your dog suffer from canine stress?CORONAVIRUS Guiding Your Dog Through the Pandemic Dogs are creatures of habit. They enjoy routine and knowing what comes next. ‘When Dad puts on that jacket it means a walk is coming!’ ‘When Mum wears those shoes yippee it’s outside time!’ It’s how the canine brain works. Whilst we all enjoy a break from the norm, when a dog’s daily routine is disrupted for any length of time it can lead to behavioural issues which may start off as small problems but, if not addressed, can quickly build into a negative pattern of behaviour Due to the coronavirus pandemic and the huge changes this has caused in households across the country, (although Fluffy is delighted you are at home with him more often right now!) However in terms of behaviour, the disruption in canine daily routine, along with extended periods at home can cause the onset of increased barking, resource guarding, displays of anxiety or nervous behaviours, over-bonding or reactivity. In an effort to assist dog owners during what could quite possibly be a long haul and to avoid a deluge of serious canine behavioural issues when the pandemic is over it's a good idea to keep to a routine as much as possible if your dog is at all showing signs of behavioural upset during this time.ViewDate:

"really" making new friends! This is awful Lily and I do feel your pain. Especially at this time when family and friends are so important. I myself have enjoyed a busy working life with lots if activities and with one fell swoop all has been taken away due to circumstances (wont go into it here) but I am sorry now I did not take the time to cultivate and value friendships in the past. I have learned a very sad lesson. I wish you well -
