copper beeches's bio
I am a widow of five and a half years after 50 years of happy marriage. I have three children, all happily married, six grandchildren and one greatgranddaughter. I love my family to bits. I also have some wonderful friends who helped me when I needed them most. They are still there for me after more than five years. We all, every now and again, talk about my husband David and for that I am very grateful. I love my garden and my green house. I grow a lot of plants for my daughter's school fete. She is a teacher in a special needs school. I go for meals four or five times a year with some of my old school friends, one of whom is a widow like myself. Di and I go on holidays together as we get on very well and sharing a twin room keeps the cost down. I love animals especially dogs but have to be content sharing my other daughters dog and my great granddaughters rabbit. I don't like routine housework, especially ironing, but I do like a tidy house. The dusting gets done when the sun shines! The vacuuming once a week unless I have "messy" visitors. I only wash every two weeks. I iron only when I have to,!!! I visit my Aunt in Harrogate three or four times a year (she is 96 this year). I like to think of myself as a young, very able 77 year old who lived life to the full, especially in the 50's and 60's (David and I met in '61 and married in '64 and then with David after the children flew the nest. We loved America , particularly Las Vegas Nevada and
Lake Havasu City Arizona. We used to go at least twice a year, sometimes three or four. We were not the sort of couple who could lie on the beach all day but we did go away a lot to the Costa del Sol with our friends and always had a great time. Happy days. I guess that's quite a bit about me. So bye bye. -

Daily diaries of those who are self-isolating due to CoronavirusI am not going to do a daily diary as I don't want to bore all you Silver Surfers. I just want to say how good I am feeling because I am doing all the little jobs that were put on the back burner for months. I have ample food an unlimited supply of water and sufficient toilet rolls to see me through (without stockpiling - where are they putting it all?). I have a lovely family who will help me get through this and if I don't make it, I have had a wonderful life with no regrets. God bless us all.ViewDate:

Is it realistic to expect over 70s to remain in their homes for 4 months?I am more worried about the infrastructure of our country than myself. I am a young 78. I take my vitamin D pill every day (prescribed) and I have my annual flu jabs. I have also had a jab for pneumonia. If Corona virus is going to get me I am sure it will. But thousands of people die every year from one flu virus or another, just look up the statistics on Google. I did and I was amazed that the media haven't realised that fact yet. Instead of concentrating on the elderly the government aught to be safeguarding our essential services such as medical staff, workers in gas, electricity and water. The logistics of having these and many other necessary industries undermanned and therefore vulnerable to failure would be catastrophic. Good health to you all.ViewDate:

Is it realistic to expect over 70s to remain in their homes for 4 months?I had my flu vaccination and my pneumonia vaccination, I take vitamin D pills as suggested by my doctor. To restrict us in isolation for 4 months is ridiculous.ViewDate:

Should playing tag in the playground be banned in Primary Schools?Oh, for goodness sake! The word "playground " means exactly that, a ground or place to play. After the routine of the classroom it is necessary for children to relax or let off steam at break time. Of course you will get upsets and minor falls etc. This is all a part of growing up. Is the head teacher not aware that children have to be exposed to all kinds of situations, (but not terribly dangerous things) in order to survive in this world. If they are wrapped in cotton wool they will grow up thinking that the world is a wonderful place and as adults will be exposed to all kinds of things that they should have been made aware of both at school and at home in their formative years. Don't play in the dirt, you will catch germs, Don't play tag, one of you may get upset or even hurt. Don't play conkers, one may fly off the string and blind you. Don't play with tinsel it may strangle you. Don't ride that bike, you may fall off. Don't cross the road you may be run over. Just explain to them what could happen and, within reason, let them decide for themselves. They will then grow up being aware of dangers, but not afraid of them. Please, please let our children be children.ViewDate:

Should over 70s be banned from voting on the country's future?Personally, and I know I will not be popular saying this, I don't give a dam. I am 78 (just) and I and many I talk to, young and old are sick to the back teeth of Brexit. We are governed by a mish mash of dithering idiots who fight and bicker like children. We had a vote but a lot of MPs would like us to have another. This is not the best of three or five decisions until we get one that the majority of parliament agrees with. I am afraid that my complacency arises from the fact that I personally cannot do a thing about anything anymore. Some MP's are targeting the younger voters just like Hitler did. Don't believe them children they don't ever come true to their tongues.ViewDate:

Would you like a ‘standing’ GP appointment?Never mind about standing GPs. I don't care if they are using a treadmill or riding an exercise bike, just as long as we can have appointments when we are ill and not two weeks afterwards. I find the present system a shambles. I don't have to go very often, in fact I don't even know the name of my Doctor, but every single time, over the past seven years, I have arrived a little early for my appointment with no one in the waiting room except myself. No one going in or out. I still have to wait until my appointment time before I am called in to see a Doctor/nurse. We are only allowed 5minutes maximum consultation and only allowed one "illness" to be discussed. As I said, what a shambles.ViewDate:
