Should the much-loved books of Roald Dahl be rewritten?I think it is wrong to try to rewrite history. The words chosen by Dahl were relevant at the time the book was written, and shoul tell those interested the everyday language of the era.ViewDate:

Psychic Mediums: Bridging the Ethereal Gap!I,m a little scared of going down this path. 2 close relatives, my dad abd my sister had a meeting with a psychic medium, and feel they 'touched' someone who had passed, and were both convinced. I yjink I prefer to remain sceptic.ViewDate:

Anybody out there finding themselves on their ownI'm a bit similar to you, became a widower 7 years age, never got used to it, now trying to make new worthwhile friends. I hope I can meet someone wh is on 'the same page'. When your marriage has been long and happy, you begin to realise the enormity of what it was in your life. Regards Gordon.ViewDate:

Anybody out there finding themselves on their ownI think it might not be your best idea, to retire -bump-end. Might be a alternative to cut it down to part time, and then stop. I retired and realised I needed the contact and friendship that I had. So carried on working for 7 years to feel I was 'doing something', You can always meet me for a coffee and have a moan, or put the world to rights!ViewDate:

Anybody out there finding themselves on their ownI came from Birmingham to Paignton. We ran a holiday hotel for about 18 seasons, sold it to retire and spend time having a mooch round the country, I now live alone in my bungalow, 4 offspring, one is in Adelaide, all made good lives and happy. Will you be downloading the new tracing app today?I dont posess a smart phone, just a basic mobile phone, which does all I want . Though I do sign in Track and Trace my mobile number, at venues where these are asked for. I am of an era where mobile phones were not an extension of my fingers. This will do for me.ViewDate:

Is it realistic to expect over 70s to remain in their homes for 4 months?I agree, that to get out is necessary for our mental health.Like many, I am now alone, after a bereavement and being aged 80+, though I have my grown and married offspings, I need to converse with older folk of my era. I would like to find a mate, for regular chats, but have found 'dating not really the way for me.. There must be thousands of usViewDate:

Is it realistic to expect over 70s to remain in their homes for 4 months? Not realistic, but absolutely necessary, to prevent the awful virus, from claiming new victims, by the day. I belong to a friendship group of about 30 regulars, who are each over 65 years, and we meet up weekly in a local church hall. The church have now asked us to suspend our weekly get-togethers for the foreseeable future. Some of us keep in touch by mobile, but until the virus is stopped from spreading, that will have to suffice for the time being. Most do shopping every couple of days, but even this is discouraged by our advice from government advisors. Strange way of life, for us all. But looks like we have to bear with it.ViewDate:

Which coalition do you find more palatable?Pity we are unable to have a true coalition, with the most capable MP applying for the ministry they may know something about. Currently a Minister for Agriculture, could be appointed without knowledge of farming. Woe will betide us all if the SNP govern any part of the UK except Scotland. Having said that Ms Sturgeon must be the most able Parliamentarian for many a year,ViewDate:

Finding the right senior chat room for youSo. I didn't know where anyone was from. I do have a friend in US who lives, Martinsville, Indiana. I live in Devon, which is S W of England. I am sort of blundering around this site, trying to make new friends to chat with, exchange views, ideas, solutions, just about any subject. I am much older than you, and have , 4 children 10 grandchildren. One son lives in Australia, and recently came home to attend to me, and to say a final farewell to my wife who died, suddenly on 12 February. I wont dwell, other than to say now have lots of time on my hands, and that brought me to this site.ViewDate:

Finding the right senior chat room for youHi, Blackdog. New to the site, and was replying to a couple of comments. In a previous life, I would sometimes ask a question, and no one replied. I am sure that some must just trawl sites just having a nose around, with not much intent other than to use up a little time. I worked for a company who needed receptionists up 'til midnight, and all these did while it was quiet, was just use the pc they had on the desk. The most vibrant I used was when I was caravanning, UK campsite. Always got a response no matter what the time was, some some good chat had. This seems to be my era. I like the fact that it seems to be for all. I suddenly find a lot of time on hand, so am surfing to get motivated, in some direction.ViewDate:

Finding the right senior chat room for youHiya, Poppy,Keltickitty and Dinky. So now there are 4 of us. Then lets start the chat. Don't like to see you all alone with no one to chat to. But we have to throw something into the pot. Are you in the UK? I live in Devon, perhaps we should at least know your county. If we start carefully, and give a little info, but not too much, we could chat. I gave you each a vote, to start the ball rolling. I have only recently joined this fraternity, but have responded to a few of the polls , to try to get the 'feel' With Spring around the corner, an election in the offing, England getting thrashed at cricket, won some rugby, I am also here, a little bored. Oh and I have grandchildren. With no one to agree or disagree with, so lets gossip to each other. Regards to you.Thats my starter for 10!!ViewDate:

Should Jeremy Clarkson be sacked or reinstated?I guess you are right. In the commercial world, Top Gear, fronted by Mr Clarkson is a massive money generator for the BBC. If a few other presenters had his charisma, the income would wipe out the need to charge us for a TV licence, and would also be able to finance more sport and quality drama. Whether you like him or not.ViewDate:

What style party leader TV debate would you like to see?All leading parties debating, but with a more competent chairman than David Dimbleby, who allows question time to descend into a weekly shouting squabble. Otherwise, I am not really interested.ViewDate:

Is it important to know how to use grammar correctly?Like most, I would prefer grammatically correct expression. However, when I took my grand daughter's teachers to task about the letters I had seen, (from grandchildren), I was told that their top priority was to teach communication, Fortunately the grammar improved, as the children read more, and I now am fortunate to have some nicely written letters. I wont get on to textspeak!ViewDate:

Should the World Cup be held in Qatar in 2022?It seems a perverse decision to have selected this location in the first place. Especially in view of the alleged corruption surrounding the decision. The climate in the region is extreme to say the least, and the quality of the games played will suffer.ViewDate:
