Is the UK Government doing enough to lessen the spread of Covid-19?If schools close; 1. Clinicians without family would have to stay home to look after their kids 2. Or the at risk group, I.e., grandparents will have to babysit 3. Children who rely on school meals will go hungry 4. If no extended family, his would you survive being off for 6-16wks if schools are closed for ages? Companies wouldn’t pay for that amount of time.ViewDate:

Are you worried about Coronavirus in relation to any holidays that you have booked in 2020?Personally, I’m putting off travel until this is under control. We have a lady at either who has a cruise booked which is due to go to China, not sure what she will fo, but work may impose 2wk barrier if she goesViewDate:

Anyone got any good tips to stop cats fouling garden?Use your urine in a watering can around the garden, watered down a little to prevent burning your plants. Cats will treat it like another’s territory and leave you alone if you do it regularlyViewDate:

What book are you currently reading?I’m reading (well listening via Audible!) to Plague of Shadows by Michael Wisehart, which falls under the fantasy genre. It’s the second book of the Aldorian Chronicals. I’m enjoying it, but maybe not as much as the Dragonlance books or the Trudii Canavan series.ViewDate:

Abusive adult childrenDid you lay down some ground rules before she returned? Welcoming back grown up children can be problematic I think. I’ve heard of sons expecting mum to do all their washing and cooking, like old times, then just sitting back and doing nothing. So rules do need to be made and agreed to. Do you think her aggression was out of character? If so, should she have seen a Doctor? One thing to say is we all have a choice, so don’t accept any responsibility for what decisions she has made, she is an adult, not a child, and is therefore responsible for her own decisions. She has made a very hurtful decision to exclude you from seeing your grandson. I would still send cards for birthdays and Christmas, in the hope that once she gets her life back on track, she will reflect on her behaviour. At least she could reply to this and feel she is not making the first step.ViewDate:

Abusive adult childrenI’m sad to read this but I think maybe they thought you were criticising everything. Perhaps if you had changed the way you commented it wouldn’t have been taken that way? So instead of “I can see why your heating bill are so high...” you had said, “ oh, nice place, are you planning on upgrading the windows?” It wouldn’t have been taken that way? If they had come back negatively, you could have just left it and changed the subject. I think the younger generation are very sensitive to criticism as you have found out. They are not called the snowflake generation for nothing! Hope you can restore contact with your daughter.ViewDate:

Coffee machines - how do you make your coffee? We have both a percolator and a Tassimo, the percolator is used the most as we both drink black coffee on the whole ( we don’t buy milk as I have a milk allergy and OH got fed up of throwing the milk out!) The Tassimo is used for guests so they can have a latte or cappuccino (as the milk comes with it!).ViewDate:

AllotmentsI have an allotment plot in my own back garden, saves on the trips out, but still have the same issues re soil and bugs etc! Just invested in a garden shredder to help with mulching and disposing of my shrub trimmings. Will also help with more brown to my composting too, win win situation! Don’t forget equal quantities of green and brown to your compost for best results!ViewDate:

Poison in gardensUnsure of your question, are you investigating what could have caused all your plants to die, or are you wanting revenge? There are many reasons that could cause your plants to die, if unsure, get some sent away for analysis, that will tell you the cause, and whether what you suspect is possible.ViewDate:

How can I remove a giant phormium?Depends on whether you want it fully removing, in which case, if it is that big, your gardeners suggestion is a good one. If you want to keep it, then thinning it down might work, or at least reduce its size for removal....ViewDate:

Lifeline pendants and alarm monitoring companysBe careful with keyboxes, yes, they are useful for clinicians and carers to attend and gain access and for you or your family to stay home. HOWEVER - check your household insurance is covered as it may not be AND - ask that the information held on the patients record is marked as PRIVATE - lots of sharing going on now, which is great for your care, but you don't need everyone to know how to get into your house, only those who need it. Some trusts put this information into a template then mark this template as private so it isn't shared to the podiatry clinic, or the stopping smoking clinic - as they should do. Others don't - so ask!ViewDate:

Where is everyone retiring to?Hi AngelRose Being married to an ex forces chap, we have moved around a lot and do not have a network of friends around us to see us into our dotage... We live in Norfolk, and our families are dotted around the country, Wales, Wirral, Norfolk etc. I have recently been looking at Wales and the North West, mainly because mum is there and getting older.... We could also sell our house and buy outright, so we would be able to reduce our working hours going forward until retirement. We get a lot of Southerners move up to Norfolk, two of our neighbours are from Kent and Essex.... I guess it depends on your reasons for wanting to move...?ViewDate:

Over 50 and just lost jobI would try the public sector ,i.e., NHS, Councils etc.. they seem to prefer experience and the reliability of the older worker. Tell your friend to get registered with employment agencies that deal with accountancy jobs, and they may be able to get him a temp to perm role. Also, make sure he has a LinkedIn profile, as all the agencies use this to find people to fill jobs. He can put a posting on there saying what area of the country he lives, what he is looking for and that he is available for work.ViewDate:

Hello...Yes, contracting doesn't seem to be getting any better, does it! What with IR35, the NHS being scuppered with daily rates, and the possible increase by 6% on corporation tax if Labour get in, I might start to look for a permanent job! Simply won't be worth my while.... sigh! Main Coons are so laid back! Persians are relatively docile, and often stupid, but I love their loving nature. If I was going for a shorthair, it would be a bengal....ViewDate:

Hello from Norfolk!Well done you, for staying in the NHS so long! There is a lot of discontent out there at the moment, many district nursing teams are at their wits end..... people all living longer with more complex needs, not enough staff to service their patients, and too many grumpy people knowing their rights and demanding what isn't available! Many have retired early and are only being replaced with newly qualified who take around a year to totally get up to speed..... many teams have stopped offering ear syringing too, as they just can't do everything anymore, not enough hours in the day... I know because I have worked with teams for weeks at a time, and you get to see it all, warts and all...ViewDate:

Hello from Norfolk!Hi Jean! I'm orginally from the North West, but ended up here twice, once from 1985-1989 and then from 2005, so we seem to be here now, especially as hubby is now not moving round with his job any more... I trained as a nurse in the 80's in Birkenhead, loved nursing (I was on the last SRN course before Project 2000 came in) but went directly out to live abroad so never actually practiced... I have worked a lot with the NHS though, as a PA and now as an IT Trainer (as well as other sectors too).ViewDate:

Is the balance right between toddlers social interaction and technology engagement? With all things, it is balance. As a parent, you have to juggle lots of things, and sometimes it is useful to have the children sitting quietly on their ipad whilst you get on with things..... However.... I do believe it should be managed. No gadgets in the bedroom, and only access after dinner and homework done, for a limited time :-) I see too many children not getting enough sleep, and too many parents giving in to their children. And yes, they need to get out and do other activities too.ViewDate:

Hello...Hi, I also work in IT and Education, the adult kind though, as an IT Trainer/ learning and development consultant.... I too would love to get the balance right, being self employed though it tends to be feast or famine :-0 I'm a cat person, having bred Persian cats for about 15 years, not so much now though!ViewDate:

New member stopping by to say HelloHi Carol, I'm in Norfolk too, and still working! I know what you mean about work life balance, I have been self employed for the last eight years, it is either feast or famine! I joined a Red Hatters group to get to know more ladies in the area, as working all the time, usually in other parts of the country, I wasn't making any local connections. I'm off in a moment to meet a group of ladies dressed in red and purple at 12, for lunch, so that should be fun!ViewDate:

How are you finding your iPad?Glad you have local support in using your chosen product. I am an IT Trainer and although I train MS Products, I use Apple products at home, because I like them. It took me a while to be convinced however, and if you are used to using PC and move over to an Apple product, it at first can all seem very strange!ViewDate:
