It's the 5th poll in a row since June showing a rise KEEP UP YOUR GOOD WORK Duvat ! Your driving them in the right direction !ViewDate:

Scottish IndependencePleased to note you too are from the West of Scotland as I am . You will see in my posting to Duvat that it is a fallacy that we could not afford independence . . Were you aware that some 151 countries have gained independence since the end of World War 2 . Nuff said !ViewDate:

Scottish IndependenceBoth you and your west of Scotland colleague are somewhat deluded into believing we could not support independence . 151 countries have done so since the Second World War . Scotland is not being subsidised if you care to read into the following : The Scottish subsidy myth — Digital Spy https://forums.digitalspy.com/discussion/2066643/the-scottish-subsidy-myth No you are stating the often quoted half story which is tax spending per head which Scotland does get higher per head . You are missing the other component which is often left off deliberately the revenues generated per head. Its net spending per head, taking in tax and revenue which is the relevant figureViewDate:

Scottish IndependenceScots English European - irrespective of original nationality- Nicola is wining them over by logic ! You Gov poll : "It also put the First Minister’s net approval rating at +50 while the Prime Minister lagged behind at -50. Since last year, it marked a boost of 45 points for Sturgeon and a decrease of 16 for the Tory leader."ViewDate:

Scottish IndependenceTempus fugit ! Not much changed since the ill informed statement of AlexanderG2 some 3 plus years ago . Pandemic strikes , Boris waffles more than usual , wee Dom is not kept in his cupboard , Brexit is an unmitigated disaster , Scotland has clearly had enough and independence now inevitable , Nicola has clearly proven that she is the most competent and able politician around . Note there has been a keelie invasion of the deep south since I last tuned in !ViewDate:

BrexitGood to see that at last some common sense is beginning to make itself heard .The prospect of an honestly held and properly conducted Referendum is a must Perhaps those narrow minded introverted Brexiteers who have spouted so much rubbish over the last while will shut up and realise that May’s bungling incompetence has led the country up a blind alley ! Time she resigned and took her puppets with her .ViewDate:

No air miles this time Theresa - the response from the EU was with you in seven minutes – the Withdrawal Agreement struck last November was NOT up for renegotiation . Does the future look brighter?Well said RTC ! Trust that common sense and reality are beginning to seep into those Brexiteers who regardless of what has been said , insist on continuing their gallop towards the cliff edge . If nothing else , we have realised the dreadful inefficiencies and weaknesses within the Westminster system .The shocking abuse of the honours system by the Tory incumbents must be addressed and proportional representation similar to that of the Welsh and Scottish Parliaments introduced .ViewDate:

Europe yes or no?The total shambles that is Westminster attracts the sharp barb of French based columnist Fidelma Cook: “ The Irish now willingly part of, and prosperous in , a united Europe can , at long last , look calmly on the fist shaking Little Englanders in the Palace of Westminster as their bluffs are called out “ .ViewDate:

Finding my fatherThe information made available through the internet has made your task somewhat easier than in earlier time . Because of the somewhat outdated regulations regarding privacy “ the hundred years rule “ holds sway in this country and the last available Census you can consult is that of 1911 . You can however now consult a wide choice of other sources including the electoral rolls ( voters roll ) and valuation rolls. If you draw a list of blanks there is a good chance your father emigrated . Passenger lists are very detailed and comparatively easy to follow . If you locate him abroad you can often continue the search in the country of adoption I wrote a story for the family of 5 brothers ( my great grand uncles ) who left these shores to seek their fortunes in the Ballarat Gold rush in Australia I used ancestry.com and accessed a mass of previously unknown info . Google names , try Facebook – there is lot out there – do not despair and good luck !ViewDate:

Hi from ScotlandMore Capercaille ! I wrote recently about my experiences many moons ago with a male capercaille (aka “horse of the woods” ) here in Highland Perthshire .These beautiful but somewhat aggressive birds have suffered a mammoth decline in numbers from some 20 000 in Scotland in the 1980s to barely a 1000 at present . They are now only found in the north east in Aberdeenshire- a sad but somewhat inevitable decline . Only last week a n incident was reported in a small estate in Aboyne . A love crazed caper caused them to create an exclusion zone around its territory to protect ramblers after it had killed its love rival in a fight . Rangers had warned tourists that they could be mistaken for a potential mate or rival by an aggressive cock . One path has already been closed after a poor cyclist was set upon by one using its razor sharp beak . The caper is the largest of the grouse family reaching up to 90 cm / 3 feet in lengthViewDate:

BrexitCarole , thank you for your prompt response . Simply felt that you endorsed Lochinvar ‘s response quite blindly when it was so factually flawed .Things are changing at a rapid rate in the political sphere not necessarily for the good . Take care and wrap up well it is likely to be cold one .ViewDate:

BrexitThank you young Lochinvar for your response and that of your faithful minion ! Your apparent derision regarding the Herald Poll is a bit of a smokescreen . The paper has an independently chosen panel of 500 persons ( not necessarily readers ) . Scotland has a population of approximately 5.5 million Pollsters such as You Gov and Ipsos Mori covering the whole of the UK have panels of between 1200 and 1500 covering a population in excess of 50 million thus negating your facetious comment . Scotland will vote on UK issues until she ceases to be a partner in the present Union – quite obvious I would have thought . With regard to your somewhat tetchy “ Europe does not want you “ remark it is clear that you did not hear the speech by MEP Alyn Smith to the Parliament regarding Scotland’s future membership . A standing ovation with the exception of Farage and his morose mates ! In conclusion you commented that most English people would support Scottish independence . One of the biggest groups favouring independence is that of the English Scots who are prominent in their support at open days throughout the land . Surprised you did not throw in a retort about “ English subsidies “ but presumably you got the message when you read the McCrone Report ! A little concluding tip- Carole’s hammer has a shoogly head and doubt it ability to hit many nails on the head !ViewDate:

BrexitNot surprised to see you swimming against the inevitable tide Lochinvar The Herald has a sound reputation for investigative journalism and quality output They publish regular polls using an independently selected panel of 500 persons . To cure your current DTs ( Doubting Thomas’s ) read the latest You Gov poll of last Wednesday .It is applicable to the whole of the UK . 56% wish to stay in the UK against 44% who want to leave ! The same proportion want a second Referendum – 3 points up on last month . If May- hem perchance fiddled a Brexit deal it is now obvious Scotland will wave bye bye and take her place with our fellow EuropeansViewDate:

Will you be stocking up on provisions for post-Brexit?The whole scenario is too complex at this stage to embark on panic measures . The way the Government have acted ( or indeed fail to act ) and the immediate poll response indicates that remaining within the EU may well be the final scenario . The poll showed 72.32 % of the electorate felt Brexit should not go ahead . Bon mot ?ViewDate:

Just joined so I'm introducing myself.Hi Mokesmom Yes that is the caper ! Sadly they have declined in numbers radically over the last decade . Like a big turkey with a fan like tail .My late father in law was a keen golfer and played socially in the small 9 hole just outside the village . They had to close one of the holes as two male capers inhabited the wood adjoining and would frequently steal any balls they saw on the green ! Any effort to retaliate was not on – they are a protected species .ViewDate:

I have a border terrier and Irrespective of weather walk her 3 or 4 times a day I live in the Scottish Highlands and being a “ blogger “ always have my camera with me . Piece de resistance some years was capturing some pics of a capercaille which had taken up residence in mother in laws back garden It attacked her as she was trying to get into the garage – very territorial birds which sadly have disappeared from our neck of the woods . ! Enjoy the travel and the sunshine – it’s -6C here at present .ViewDate:
