Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep turns 50!
Fifty years ago a Scottish band called Middle of the Road reached number one in the UK singles chart.
Originally from Glasgow lead singer Sally Carr and brothers Ian and Eric McCredie founded the band Middle of the Road in April 1970 and by June 1971 had achieved their first and biggest hit record with their version of Lally Stott’s catchy song Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep.
In all, Middle of the Road had five hit singles in the UK in 1971 and 1972. The other four were Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum, Soley Soley, Sacremento (A Wonderful Town) and Samson and Delilah.
Let us take you back to 1971. Do you remember where you were when you heard this song? Did you sing along to it too?
