Summertime
This poem was written by Mike Rose to celebrate all things to do with summer …
Summer Time
It’s summer time, the sun’s come out at last
Midsummers gone and now is in the past
The crops in the fields turn slowly green to gold
And will be harvested before the winter’s cold
People at the seaside, some swimming in the sea
Children playing on the sand, happy as can be
On the promenade folk walk ice cream in their hand
Others sit in deckchairs and listen to the band
Then there are the “Parties in the Park”
The bands that play there play till after dark
Also Rock Concerts that go with a swing
At the Proms the soprano she does sing
Some families may have picnics in the park
While other cook on BBQ’s in gardens till it gets dark
They eat and drink and have their fill
Well eating out can be such a thrill
Also in summer the roads can get so busy
This can get some parents in a tizzy
With children saying “are we there yet”
But the journey has some miles to get
Some people like to fly to places far and wide
While others are quite happy in the countryside
Summer has its pleasures vast
But it is over far too fast
So this is my wish to you
Please enjoy the whole summer through
If perchance you miss it here
Never mind there’s another one along next year
