This descriptive poem was written by Kathy Thomas about a place that is special to her, where the landscape meets the sea, at Morcombelake in Dorset…

I am in awe at the beauty here before me
The sea shines like a million diamonds.
I cannot comprehend how all this splendour came to be
Just waiting here for me to come upon.
The green land undulates and away it spills
To where seagulls dip and cry.
The standing trees like a regiment upon the hills
Have stood guard for centuries gone by.
The existence of this place is an impossibility to me
That it should just be here, no sign to indicate
The beauty where this landscape meets the sea
That all this wonder just lies in wait.
A hawk hovers high above the ground
Expressing such joy to be alive,
It’s high pitched cry a piercing sound
As it makes a breath-taking, vertical dive.
The sun is now exploding in the sea
It paints the clouds and spreads across the sky.
It hurts my eyes but still I have to see
As light fades and evening is nigh.
The beauty of this moment fills my heart
With an emotion that is hard to explain.
From this scene I am loath to depart
As I leave I want to turn again.
To this place I am destined to return
Many times will I be held within such moments.
For this wonder my heart will always yearn
And to preserve this beauty is of such importance.
