Stepping Out
This humorous poem was written by Irene Kerr about her commitment to exercising, now she is retired.
Stepping Out
Now that I’m retired
There’s really no excuse
To dust off those walking poles
Put them to good use
They’ve hung up in my closet
A Christmas gift to me
The gift that keeps on giving
‘If used’ that is the key
My runners they are ready
New pedometer good to go
All set to hit the pavement
A fit bod soon to show
My iPhone is vibrating
I must answer this one call
Would I like to meet for lunch
Sure I’ve no plans at all
Tomorrow I’ll be out there
Melt off those extra pounds
In my trendy gymn clothes
Striding leaps and bounds
I’m at the door and ready
Excited and motivated
Just checked inside my mailbox
I knew I should’ve waited
Today’s the day to meet the gals
It’s our monthly get together
Good job I had no other plans
In such inclement weather
The runners fit just right
I’m all set good to go
A cheery voice behind me
Greets me with ‘hello’
My friend just called to visit
As she was driving by
A cuppa tea to cheer us
I’m sure there’s still some pie
The moral of this story
Is more than plain to see
My exercise must become
My first priority
To give myself the gift of health
Ensures I’ll be around
To enjoy the trails and travels
Wherever I’ll be bound
