Oh Grain of Sand

This poem was written by Roy Smith who lives in New Zealand .. hope you enjoy it …

Oh Grain of Sand

Oh grain of sand, oh grain of sand, oh tiny countless sharp and brilliant grain of sand.
Enduring, shifting, all alike those grains of sand.
I’m one like you, oh grain of sand
I shove and shift and drift along, I’m sometimes sharp and shine like you.

Oh grain of sand, oh grain of sand, oh tiny countless sharp and brilliant grain of sand.
Washed in the timeless sea, no name or number wrote for thee.
I’m one like you, oh grain of sand
It’s up to chance they say where life will carry me.

Oh grain of sand, oh grain of sand, oh tiny countless sharp and brilliant grain of sand.
Desert suns do bleach and parch you grain of sand.
I’m one like you oh grain of sand
I sweat by day and freeze by night, I wrestle with the earthly miles oh grain of sand.

Oh grain of sand, oh grain of sand, oh tiny countless sharp and brilliant grain of sand.
Wind blown one speck of mineral stone are you oh grain of sand.
I’m one like you oh grain of sand
I’m made of sterner stuff you know, I bluster on and carry forth oh grain of sand.

Oh grain of sand, oh grain of sand, oh tiny countless sharp and brilliant grain of sand.
Pinned down for ever in a concrete mix could be your fate oh grain of sand.
I’m one like you, oh grain of sand
Our life’s destiny … could be mirrored in a mixing bowl …. oh grain of sand.

Stoic

I was born in Derbyshire, emigrated to New Zealand in 1957, returned in 1961 married and returned to NZ in 1966. It's a long story but I eventually obtained my own dairy farm in the Waikato region in 1979. I am now an old dodderer and do woodwork in a shed which is my second home.I make blackboards and sell them all over the country on line. Would love to hear from anybody young or old on all manner of subjects. I am inclined to be conservative but my roots tell me I've got it wrong!
