Go rattle your chains elsewhere
Another poignant poem written by Martin Silvester. This one is for people who want to move on but for whatever reason are struggling to do so because of things that happened in the past ….
GO RATTLE YOUR CHAINS ELSEWHERE
We carry our ghosts like a shadow,
When we face the light they’re not there.
And each time we turn our backs to the sun,
They rattle their chains from their lair.
The ghosts of past relationships,
So difficult to bear.
Rattle their chains in unholy glee,
As they rip and they rend and they tear.
They scream “perhaps”and “maybe”
They laugh as you writhe in pain.
And even when you push them away,
They come back and appear again.
They give false hope as they beckon you,
To join them in their dance.
“It may change” they cackle
As around your heart they prance.
And all the time we allow them,
To tie our hands with hope.
They hang our dreams far out of reach,
And dare us to cut the rope.
They bog us down in their memory mire,
When we long to move ahead
They pull back our hands when we reach out,
And they turn our hearts to lead.
To lay the ghosts that haunt us,
Is not an easy task.
For they don’t care if we do or we don’t,
So we must look at ourselves and ask.
Do we want to be happy and have,
Someone to love who will care.
If yes, then face the ghosts and say,
Go rattle your chains elsewhere.
Find someone else to torment,
For my life’s too short to spare,
More precious time with you ghost,
Go rattle your chains elsewhere.
