Time to make your opinions count!
Bored of being asked to give your opinion and fill in a survey, join a citizen panel or better still a jury, only to share your thoughts and never hear anything back or see any sign of action as result?
If the answer is yes, and you’re fed up with the whole survey ‘thing’, you might want to join up with the Silversurfers Team and The Community Data Cooperative to help create The Humbug Club. A new innovative, community-owned, research initiative.
The Humbug Club is very much a social experiment. We have no idea if it will work or not, but we’d like to see if you want to give it a try with us!
The Humbug Club’s unique purpose is to create a space for mature consumers to have a voice, initially in the healthy ageing debate, and work with Silversurfers and other interested partners to make it heard.

After all, it is more than likely that most of us in our late 50s onwards are going to live longer than past generations and will need fun things to do/buy, and more options from the healthcare system than critical/terminal illness management. So, given we are often ignored as a group it’s on us to tell businesses that are interested, and governments that should be, what we like, so they can create them or if already have them, tell us more about them in relevant and interesting ways.
If we get 500 or more in The Humbug Club we will be inviting brands and service providers (including the NHS) to engage with you as a member, to understand more about what you want to help you age happily and healthily, hopefully a win-win for everybody.
The Humbug Club will ask these companies to pay to talk to you (yes, pay!) and the ideas, views and opinions you share with them will be anonymous.
And it won’t be cheap. Your opinions, ideas, and thoughts are VALUABLE. And we shouldn’t forget it.
But here’s the thing.
ALL the profits from EVERY survey go back into community projects as voted for by the participants in The Humbug Club.
The Community Data Cooperative will share back your insights with Silversurfers anonymously, so you get to hear what everyone thinks and feels about the issues, challenges and opportunities you have been asked about.
As we said earlier we don’t know where this experiment will go but what we do know is:
- The Community Data Cooperative is the UK’s ONLY community-owned research company which donates ALL its profits from research back into the community, as voted for by its members, which will be you if you join up!
- Your personal data WILL NOT be shared with anyone outside of The Community Data Cooperative. Not even Silversurfers!
- You WILL NOT be contacted directly by any advertiser or other 3rd party. You will only ever be contacted by The Humbug Club.
- You WILL NOT be pestered with 10s of surveys – one a month maximum and what you say will be shared back, because as a member it’s your business.
