The Reader’s Digest: 100 years young
This year marks 100 years since the launch of the Reader’s Digest. Formed from humble beginnings in February 1922 by DeWitt Wallace with help from his wife Lila, it has built over the years to become the global success it is today.
Over those last ten decades, Reader’s Digest has become an international powerhouse. Today, the magazine is published in 41 countries, and continues to remain one of the world’s most-read, best-loved publications.
Most people of a certain age are familiar with the heritage and nostalgia of Reader’s Digest and have fond memories of the condensed books and guides and infamous big prize draws. Many remember seeing the little pocket-sized magazine on grandma’s coffee table or in the doctor’s surgery waiting room.
And if you should wonder if the Reader’s Digest is still going….yes, it most definitely is, and it’s stronger than ever!
The first international edition was launched right here in the UK in 1938 and to this day they continue to publish a monthly magazine – every issue is jam-packed full of inspiring stories, articles, advice, recipes, reviews, tips, jokes, and anecdotes.
The current motto states that Reader’s Digest is a trusted friend in a complicated world. And it is. From regular columns packed with information to gripping human-interest stories and helpful how-to guides, the magazine offers knowledge, positivity, and humour.
Whether you read it cover to cover, or dip in and out, the magazine has been carefully curated to make sure there’s something for everyone to enjoy. In fact, each monthly issue is small enough to fit in your pocket, but big enough to keep you entertained for weeks on end!
