How to give to charity for free this Christmas
Black Friday is nearly here and Christmas is just around the corner. Here we show you how to support a charity with your online shopping.
As our thoughts turn to Christmas gifting, and the season of goodwill gets ever-closer, many of us are also considering how we can give a little something back to a charity close to our heart.
2020 has been tough on the UK’s charities, with many reporting a significant fall in income at a time when their work is more vital than ever.
Thanks to a piece of innovation by charity fundraisers Give as you Live, you can now make a difference to a charity of your choice every time you shop online – which is perfect in the build up to Black Friday and Christmas.
Give as you Live Online has partnered with over 4,000 popular retailers, who will pay a donation equivalent to a set percentage of any purchases you make. That means when you order a Christmas gift online, buy a household appliance in the Black Friday sale, or even switch to a cheaper energy provider, you can raise donation for the charity you’ve chosen to support.
The donation is automatically sent to the charity of your choice – all you have to do is sign up to Give as you Live Online and add their handy browser extension, called the Donation Reminder, to your internet toolbar. Here’s how it works:
- Sign up, choose your charity and download the Give as you Live Online Donation Reminder. It’s totally free of charge, and can be installed with just one click.
- Browse the internet as normal. When you visit a retailer who offers a donation, you’ll see a handy pop up. Just click the green button, and we’ll do the rest.
- Raise with ease. When you receive a donation, we’ll send you an email confirming how much your shop has generated, and you can see your fundraising total at any time in your account panel.
How much will I raise?
The donations you can generate are usually a set percentage of how much you spend, and this varies from retailer to retailer. For example, popular clothing retailer Boden offer up to 4%, meaning if you bought a pair of cosy winter boots at £110, you would generate a £4.40 donation for your charity, completely free of charge.
Generating free donations
With Give as you Live Online, pretty much anything can raise a donation. As well as clothing, health & beauty, food & drink and electrical retailers, there are big donations to be had when you switch household utility suppliers, renew insurance, and even book that long awaited holiday.
Give as you Live members have already raised over £13,000,000 for charities right here in the UK, and they are hopeful of raising another £500,000 this Christmas and Black Friday.
This year, turn your Christmas gifting into Christmas giving – for free – with Give as you Live Online.
