Clever uses for baby oil
Inexpensive, readily available and safe enough for use on babies’ skin, baby oil has a number of household uses even when your children are all grown up.
Here’s some clever uses for baby oil you might not have tried before. Will you give any a go?
Loosen rings
If your fingers swell and you find it hard to remove jewellery, a drop or two of baby oil should give you the slip you need to ease the ring off.
Paint palette rescuer
Artists, rejoice! Revive dried-up watercolor or acrylic paints by adding a few drops of baby oil. Mix it in, and watch as your once-clumpy pigments transform into a smooth, workable palette. Say goodbye to wasted paints and hello to an artist’s dream come true.
Vinyl virtuoso
Dust off your vintage vinyl records with the gentle touch of baby oil. A few drops on a soft cloth can be used to clean and condition your records, ensuring a smooth and scratch-free listening experience. Rediscover the pure sound of your favourite tunes without a crackle or pop in sight.
Remove paint
If a home decorating project ends up messier than expected, try this simple strategy to remove paint from skin. Instead of scrubbing harshly, apply a few drops of baby oil and massage into skin where paint is. Wash off with soap and water and you’re good to go.
Detangle jewellery
If you have a delicate chain necklace that has become tangled, rather than risk breaking it, use a few drops of baby oil to help ease the knot and release it.
Shine chrome
Just a few drops of baby oil on a soft cloth will shine chrome or stainless steel until it polishes like new.
Dust and shine wood
Instead of chemical sprays, use baby oil to dust and shine wood. A few drops on a cloth will help pick up dust. Follow on with a dry cloth to rub in any remaining residue and your wood will look bright and polished.
Banish squeaks
If you have any squeaky hinges around the house, use a drop of two of baby oil instead of a chemical oil – it smells better and is inexpensive too.
Remove price stickers
If you have adhesive reside from a price tag or sticker left over on glass, china or plastic, use oil to gently remove it. This works if you have residue from plasters on your skin it will also help remove the adhesive without irritation.
Fix a zipper
If you have a stuck zipper, baby oil can help you quickly get it moving again. Saturate a cotton bud with baby oil and gently swab until the zip begins to move. Take care not to let any oil run onto the fabric of the garment however, as oil can stain.
Polish your golf clubs
If you have an old set of golf clubs looking worse for the wear, use baby oil to help them look good as new. Rub a few drops into a cloth and polish your golf clubs until they shine.
