The M&S Curve Collection – Thoughtfully designed for curvy figures

As many curvy women will know, the experience of shopping for gorgeous plus-sized fashion can be somewhat disappointing, with options ranging from baggy, shapeless dresses to clothes designed for a smaller figure that look deeply unflattering in larger sizes.

There’s no reason you should stand for looking anything less than fabulous, which is where Marks & Spencer’s new Curve range comes in.

Identifying a gap in the market, Marks & Spencer listened to multiple focus groups and collaborated with social media star Danielle Vanier to create the collection, which includes trend-led pieces alongside wardrobe mainstays, all thoughtfully tailored for the fuller figure.

Feedback from the 2,000 interviewees was incorporated into the designs, so that the collection would meet the needs of plus-sized women in a way that’s missing on the British high street. The women in the focus groups revealed that they didn’t just want clothes that are scaled up from standard sizing, but instead stylish pieces that are considerately crafted with the fuller figure in mind.

As a result, you can treat yourself to embroidered shirts with longer hemlines and no-peep button fastenings, dresses made from colourful fabrics that don’t cling and outfits with discreet elasticated panelling on sleeves for ultimate comfort. Bold colour, statement prints and this season’s asymmetric hems all make an appearance in the collection, neatly ticking off the trend boxes for spring/summer 2018.

A respected voice in the world of street-style fashion, Danielle Vanier fed into the design of two little black dresses, having identified a lack of plus-sized partywear on the high street. “There’s a real lack of LBDs on the high street for the curvier woman, and so I wanted to create pieces that could be easily dressed up or down for any occasion,” she says. The result? Dresses that wouldn’t look out of place on the catwalk, yet come in at an accessible £59.

The first of the two dresses is a flattering draped design with a silver hardware fastening to accentuate the waist. The second dress features sports-inspired detailing such as a mesh yoke and an exposed zip in the back. “I wanted to stress that there’s a style-conscious customer out there who might be interested in buying more exciting, trend-focused pieces,” Danielle adds.

Complementing the collection is a range of extra-wide fit footwear, available online only, including ballet pumps, boots and high heels with all the comfort and style credentials expected of Marks & Spencer. The Western-inspired tan boots are ideal for run-around days whereas the floral-print satin stilettos are perfect for spring events. Clever Insolia technology redistributes the weight away from the balls of your feet, meaning you can wear your heels with ease all day.

Whereas plus-sized fashion collections are often criticised for being unimaginative, Curve is proving popular with customers and fashion journalists alike, winning praise for its innovative spin on the wardrobe classics. A sleeveless trench coat is the ultimate layering piece for spring, while a cobalt blue maxi dress offers a fun alternative to traditional occasionwear.

Available in sizes 16 to 32 in-store and online, Curve enables plus-sized women to be able to wear the stylish and contemporary clothes they’ve been looking for.
