The Wrong Sister – Claire Douglas

Book Synopsis

Tasha and her sister Alice are totally different. While Tasha and husband Aaron are hard-up, Alice and her partner are rich. But the sisters remain close: they’d trust each other with their lives. Alice offers to look after Tasha’s children while their parents take a much-needed short break to Venice. But almost as soon as they arrive, back home Alice and her husband are attacked. And then a note arrives, addressed to Tasha. It was supposed to be you…

The Wind Knows My Name by Isabel Allende

Book Synopsis

Little Samuel Adler could have been one of those children who, decades later, would rise to their feet in Esther Rantzen’s TV studio when she asked: ‘Is there anyone in our audience tonight who owes their life to Nicholas Winton?’ Because five-year-old Samuel, in Isabel Allende’s gripping story, is one of the children smuggled out of Nazi-occupied Austria aboard one of the now-famous Kindertransport trains.

In Allende’s deeply moving The Wind Knows My Name, it is the beginning of a saga of escape, new beginnings, sacrifice and danger. Unputdownable.

Our Holiday by Louise Candlish

Book Synopsis

Looking for a perfect holiday read? You’ve found it here. Louise Candlish’s fictional British seaside town may seem beautiful and tranquil to its wealthy second home-owners, but scratch the surface and the place simmers with tension, hostile locals, and a mood for murder. For two incomer couples planning a summer of lazy days on the beach and sundowners on the veranda, reality is about to arrive like a storm rolling in from the sea. Compelling.

The Edge by David Baldacci

Book Synopsis

Travis Devine is retired. But not in the cosy, pipe-and-slippers, resting-of-weary-bones tradition. Devine is still very much a killer-in-business: his days in the US Army’s most prestigious – and deadly – special ops force may be behind him; now he’s a key player in Homeland Security’s elite undercover unit. In David Baldacci’s brilliant thriller, Devine must investigate the sniper-slaying of a young woman who held some of the CIA’s deepest secrets.

Has Anyone Seen Charlotte Salter? by Nicci French

Book Synopsis

The Salter children have been plagued all their adult lives by the unanswered question: what happened to their mother, Charlotte? Why did she suddenly disappear without trace all those years ago? After decades away, Etty Salter returns home to the Suffolk village where she grew up. But she finds no peace: the mystery comes back to haunt her with a vengeance when childhood friends launch a podcast about Charlotte’s disappearance. Long-buried secrets slowly begin to emerge. Will the ghost of a long-lost mother at last be laid to rest.

Sisters under the Rising Sun by Heather Morris

Book Synopsis

It’s five years since we picked Heather Morris’s The Tattooist of Auschwitz for our Book Club. It went on to become a worldwide bestseller, and this, her latest, is certain to do the same. It is the astonishing story of two women, an English musician and an Australian nurse, who somehow survive the horrors of WW2 Japanese POW camps in the Pacific. A breathtaking account of women in war, bravery, resilience, and true sisterhood. You’ll be completely gripped.
