Get out and about!
With the clocks going forward, daffodils and crocuses pushing their heads through the rapidly defrosting ground and lambs already in the fields, there is no mistaking the distinct whiff of spring in the air.
It’s time to get out and about. But for the deaf and those aware that their hearing is failing, a day out can often emphasise their hearing issues by all that they might miss.
Lack of socialisation is one of the key concerns of the hard of hearing and as hearing issues increase as we age – about 40% of the over 50s and an astonishing 70% of over the 70s have some form of hearing loss – independence can also suffer. Action on Hearing Loss, the UK largest and oldest charity for the deaf and hard of hearing, knows that the key to maintaining independence and a full social life is support, treatment where applicable and selecting the right product for you.
Diagnosis and Devices – as upsetting as it is to lose any degree of hearing, diagnosis is the first step to help. There’s a wonderful range of hearing aids, both on the NHS and privately, that will enable you to enjoy life to the full and maintain independence. You can even take the charity’s online hearing check here to see if a visit to your GP is required.
The Sonido Listener – an effective personal listening device that also has a “loop listening” feature, enabling it to connect to the hearing loops at many attractions across the UK.
L450 Roger Bundle – this extremely effective listener will automatically listen to groups of people or focus on just one person. Perfect for tour guides or just out and about with family and friends.
L383 Domino Pro – offers the benefits as above with an additional microphone on the receiver to help you hear nearby whilst using the transmitter to listen to the tour guide.
Action on Hearing Loss even has a range of cheaper products perfect for those on a budget or a pension.
L343 Conversor Pro – offers many of the features of the above listeners, but is great value.
L393 Domino Classic – this listener is almost the same as Domino Pro except it doesn’t have an omni-directional microphone for group conversations. And at around £300 cheaper it represents great value for money.
