Make time for your Health
Proactive health and wellbeing is something that is very important for women. The fact is that many of us are unaware of our true state of health.
And unless we have a pressing pain or niggle, or know of a problem that affects our family, we may not be doing much about it. Even then, things can be all too easy to ignore.
We’ve asked Dr Davina Deniszczyc of Nuffield Health to tell us about some health issues women may face and how to cope with them.
Dr Deniszyczyc says, We could all do with investing a bit more in staying healthy and by having a complete understanding of your health you can tailor your lifestyle accordingly and live life to the full. Below are a number of common issues which affect women of all ages and advice on how to reduce the risk of them to your health.
Lack of Exercise
Regular exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. It can help improve both physical and mental health by preventing certain health conditions. Obviously, this applies to all adults, but it’s often forgotten. Ideally, aim for 30 minutes a day! Regular exercise substantially helps to reduce cardiovascular disease, colorectal cancer and breast cancer risk. It is effective in lifting mood and helping us deal with stress.
Stress
Affects our physical and sleep health, leaving us potentially more vulnerable to developing illness. Make sure you make time for some relaxation.
Diabetes
Over half a million people in the UK have diabetes without knowing it. With a simple blood test and urine analysis, you can diagnose diabetes. This will help you manage your glucose levels through exercise, nutrition and other lifestyle changes.
Heart Disease
Knowing your blood pressure and cholesterol can establish your cardiovascular risk. Make sure you know your numbers and have these tests annually.
Colorectal cancer
Risk increases with age, so be aware of any changes in bowel habits, any blood in the motions, weight loss and abdominal pains. A bowel cancer screening test is included in Nuffield Health assessments if you are over the age of 45.
Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is the most common bone disease in the world. It causes your bones to gradually lose density and the risk increases with age. You can help reduce risk by keeping active, having a diet rich in calcium and Vitamin D, not smoking and reducing alcohol and caffeine intake. If you have concerns speak to us on 0300 790 6198.
