Multiple benefits of gardening
Most of us understand the benefits of regular physical activity, how it can reduce our risk of heart disease, strengthen bones and muscles, increase our energy levels, improve our mood, and even improve our sleeping patterns.
But how many of us find exercise just plain boring? Well, the good news is that if you’ve got a garden then you’ve got it covered.
Regular gardening improves strength, endurance and flexibility and may also help to reduce the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and maintaining a healthy weight.
Research also suggests that spending time outside in any green space can support our mental wellbeing by reducing stress, anxiety, and can help with depression. It has shown that being outside in nature can produce a calming effect on those with dementia.
Gardening is genuinely satisfying when we manage to achieve what we have set out to do, giving our confidence and self-esteem a boost and add to that the thrill of harvesting home grown produce – what could be better!
Gardening burns calories
Just one of the numerous benefits of gardening is calorie burning. Here is an infographic showing us just how many calories our bodies can burn whilst doing jobs in the garden.
