Female entrepreneurs in later life
My name is Julie Ford, creator of Instepp.
At the age of 65 I didn’t retire, I restarted and became an inventor; I invented Instepp.
Instepp is built on the established methods of exercise therapists to combine the benefits of resistance training with fundamental movement. Put simply, Instepp was designed to activate, tone, and strengthen your whole body.
For me, health and fitness have always been at the centre of my life, from teaching Physical Education in schools, to personal training across all ages from 18-80. I have explored and embraced every innovative idea, trend and fad and try to keep abreast of the latest scientific research.
An unexpected brush with cancer only reinforced my determination to keep healthy and strong.
I now run instep classes and retreats as well as running the online Instepp shop.
My entrepreneurial journey has been mostly joyful, albeit hard work at times. However, there have been challenges that have come with being an entrepreneur in later life, especially a female one.
Most people who meet me and learn about Instepp are fully on board right away once they see the simplicity of the product and my enthusiasm to boot.
However, it’s fair to say that fitness culture is a little youth-obsessed, so finding a way to get the philosophy of Instepp out to the masses has been ‘one step forward and two steps back’ on a couple of occasions. I’ve been blessed with some amazing press and sales for Instepp are booming, but it does sometimes feel like a struggle to share the same platform as younger entrepreneurs in my field.
As you and I know, with age comes wisdom and experience, so I’m able to take the odd knock and look at things a little differently to connect with the Instepp community.
All you have to do is read the Forbes 50 over 50 to see how female entrepreneurs in later life are thriving. I’m proud to be having a second bite of the cherry and having the time of my life!
My philosophy is that walking and keeping your body strong are the most natural and sustainable forms of exercise, leading to a healthy body and a healthy mind. Instepp has been born out of my love of walking and resistance training. You can enjoy Instepp by yourself or out walking with family and friends; seated or standing around the home and garden, or walking to the local shops or park.
I am delighted to be in partnership with Silversurfers, I know that you and I will be a good match and I am so excited for you to learn more about Instepp and incorporate this fun and functional movement into your life.
Instepp is ready to use anywhere, anytime. It’s fun, easy to use and highly effective. Give it a try!
