Pete Murray is back!

The ding dongs of the signature tune to Pete Murray’s Open House were heard daily by millions of radio listeners on the BBC.

Pete’s radio career dates back to the BBC Light Programme – and to Radio Luxembourg on 208, where he established a huge following, broadcasting to the UK and across Europe to teenagers hungry for a taste of pop.

On TV, he was seen on the ground-breaking music shows which defined a generation: 65 Special, Juke Box Jury and, in later days, Top of the Pops.

Now, aged 97 – Pete’s back on radio – accompanied by his friend, young David Hamilton, aged 84. With a combined age of 181, it has to be radio’s oldest double act!

Pete began broadcasting in the early ‘50s, with David following in the late ‘50s. The reunion is fitting as Pete was David’s hero – and now his good friend.

The pair are to host a special programme on Boom Radio – the radio station proudly aimed at UK baby boomers, playing music for our generation, hosted by familiar DJ names. You can tune in on DAB; or ‘Alexa – play Boom Radio’.

David and Pete will be chatting over old times. From life in Luxembourg – to meeting Nat King Cole and Dusty Springfield: “She was such a sad person in the end”.

Pete tells of his dislike for the old Housewives Choice programme; and tells of the Open House interviews that went very wrong.

Pete’s and David’s programme will be broadcast on Boom Radio on Boxing Day at 6pm.

Hear Boom Radio on DAB in much of the UK – or ‘Alexa – Play Boom Radio’.
