Fourth series of Poldark starts filming in Cornwall
Poldark is returning to our screens next year
Poldark heartthrob Aidan Turner has returned to Cornwall to start filming the eagerly anticipated fourth series of the BBC drama.
Fans were left reeling when the third series wrapped last month with Ross Poldark (Turner) and his wife Demelza’s (Eleanor Tomlinson) marriage hanging in the balance.
But they will be delighted to hear that production on the programme’s next run is already under way, with the series due to air in 2018.
Set in 1796, it will see Poldark trying to defend Cornwall from an empowered George Warleggan (Jack Farthing), and risking everything as he embarks on a political journey which takes him to the capital.
Demelza finds her loyalties torn, Elizabeth (Heida Reed) tries to strengthen her marriage, Morwenna (Ellise Chappell) continues to be oppressed by husband Reverend Ossie Whitworth (Christian Brassington), and the Enyses (Luke Norris and Gabriella Wilde) are tested as never before.
The Thick Of It’s Rebecca Front joins the cast as Lady Whitworth, Ossie’s formidable mother.
Also returning are Harry Richardson and Tom York as Drake and Sam Carne, Beatie Edney as Prudie and Josh Whitehouse as Lieutenant Hugh Armitage, who remains smitten with Demelza.
Karen Thrussell, from production company Mammoth, said they hope it “will be our strongest series yet, with eight brilliant scripts from (writer) Debbie Horsfield, a whole new world of stories and our very wonderful cast”.
She said: “In this series Ross and Demelza will face new challenges and try to turn their backs on old ghosts.
“Ross strives to become a better man, but his dark and reckless streak is never far from the surface and will lead to him facing new enemies and suffering great losses.”
Filming will take place across Cornwall and around Bristol.
