2 minutes with the Hairy Bikers, Si King and Dave Myers
The foodie double act tells Ella Walker that nothing beats poached eggs.
Best mates Si King and Dave Myers have been taking in the delights of France, Spain and Italy for their latest cookbook, The Hairy Bikers’ Mediterranean Adventure.
It’s a culmination of them hopping on their motorbikes, racing around in the sun, and collecting recipes that should hopefully brighten up winter.
And thanks to their hard work, we won’t have to eat stews, hotpots and roasts every day until spring comes back around…
We caught up briefly with the foodie double act to grill them on the truly important stuff…
Your ultimate death-row, last-night-on-earth meal, would be…
Dave: Sushi – all of it!
Si: A hot cup of tea and a bacon sandwich.
The thing you still can’t cook is…
Dave: A dosa, the Indian pancakes. Can’t do ‘em – I’ve even bought a proper dosa pan for it! And I love dosas.
Si: Meringues. I can’t get those massive, voluminous, beautiful meringues. I just can’t do ‘em, drives me crazy.
Your favourite store cupboard essential has to be…
Dave: Olive oil.
Si: Salt and pepper.
The kitchen utensil you can’t live without is…
Dave: Coffee machine – haha!
Si: Sharp knives.
If you get hungry late at night, the first snack you’ll reach for is…
Dave: Pizza!
Si: Marmite on toast.
Preferably your eggs would be…
Dave: Poached.
Si: Poached!
Your favourite childhood dinner was always…
Dave: My mother’s fishcakes.
Si: Mine’s a leek and onion pudding which we used to have on a Monday with cold cuts of beef and warmed-up gravy.
For dinner last night you ate…
Dave: Small plates, we had some ceviche…
Si: Some octopus!
Dave: And some macaroni cheese, a couple of vodka martinis and half a bottle of Sardinian wine!
And your takeaway of choice is…
Dave: Thai.
Si: Tandoori.
