Ricky Martin: The King of Latin Pop Turns 50
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Enrique Martin Morales, better known as Ricky Martin, is one of the most influential Latin artists and one of the best-selling music artists, having sold over 70 million records worldwide and gaining more than 200 awards, including 2 Grammys.
His debut English-language pop album entitled Ricky Martin sold over 15 million copies worldwide and propelled him into superstardom with the blockbuster singles “Livin’ la Vida Loca” and “She’s All I Ever Had.”
Ricky Martin is widely recognised as being the Latin artist who successfully conquered the world stage and so paved the way for other popular Latin singers, such as Shakira, Enrique Iglesias, and Jennifer Lopez.
Although best known for his high-energy brand of pop Ricky Martin is also an actor having played the role of Marius Pontmercy in Les Misérables on Broadway and Miguel Morez on the American soap opera General Hospital.
