A tribute to Bob Marley
On 11th May 1981, the world was shocked to hear of the passing of Bob Marley at the age of just 36
Considered one of music’s pioneers, Bob Marley helped introduce reggae music to the world.
It was Jamaica 1963 when Bob Marley and his friends first got together and formed the Wailing Wailers. Always popular inside their home country they became known internationally after a signing with Island Records in 1972.
With his distinctive vocal and songwriting style, Marley went on to sell more than 20 million records throughout his career, making him an international superstar.
In 1977, Marley was diagnosed with acral lentiginous melanoma and died as a result of the illness in 1981 at the age of 36. His fans around the world expressed their grief, and he received a state funeral in Jamaica. The greatest hits album Legend was released in 1984, and became the best-selling reggae album of all time. Marley also ranks as one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with estimated sales to date of more than 75 million records worldwide.
Bob Marley remains one of reggae’s most beloved artists to this day.
