M25 most boring motorway, says poll
The M25 orbital road sends drivers round the bend with boredom, according to a survey.
It was voted Britain’s most boring motorway in a poll of 1,000 UK drivers.
The next least-interesting motorway was the M1 followed by the M6, the survey by Allianz Your Cover Insurance found.
Drivers in Worcester ranked the Midlands’ city’s roads the most boring in Britain, followed by roads in Chelmsford in Essex and Plymouth in Devon.
The survey also found that as many as 76% of drivers got bored behind the wheel, with more than half this number saying that boredom led to a loss of concentration.
The most popular ways to ward off boredom were to listen to music, sing to music or eat snacks.
Top pet hate for motorists was traffic jams, followed by other drivers, potholes, speed cameras and the rush hour.
Motorists over the age of 55 were three times more likely to be driven potty by potholes than those aged 18 to 24.
Elimination of jams, better road surfaces and good scenery were seen as the best ways to beat at-wheel ennui.
Drivers aged 18-24 were twice as likely as those aged over 55 to want roads on which no police patrolled, while 10% of male drivers would like to see higher speed limits.
What is your view on motorway driving and have you got a pet hate when it comes to driving?
