Chelsea Pensioners currying favour

From cardamom muffins for breakfast to nights of curry-oke, people are being encouraged by the Chelsea Pensioners to spice up their lives for charity.

The Chelsea Pensioners sat down to an enormous curry lunch to raise awareness of The Soldiers’ Charity’s Big Curry Season which runs throughout October.  They include Chelsea Pensioners Arthur Teasdale aged 82, Eric Rawlinson, 88, Wayne Campbell, 75, and David Donaghey, 86, help to launch The Soldiers’ Charity’s Big Curry Season The charity, which provides grants to soldiers, former soldiers and their families, hopes the event will encourage people to get involved by hosting their own curry-themed fundraisers.

Advice and inspiration can be found on their website, www.bigcurry.org, with templates for posters and place mats along with a range of recipes, and even adaptations of popular songs such as Korma Chameleon.

Peter Currie, lieutenant governor at the home of the Chelsea Pensioners, the Royal Chelsea Hospital, said: “We’re delighted to be able to hold a Big Curry today as a thank you to The Soldiers’ Charity. We’re really grateful to the charity’s support over the years.”

Supporting the event, actress Dame Judi Dench said: “I can think of nothing better on an autumn day in London, when the nights are drawing in and there is a chill in the air, than to enjoy a curry with friends and, at the same time, raise money for such a worthwhile cause.”
