How to enjoy the UK’s beautiful wildlife
The UK is home to some lovely creatures and beautiful countryside, much of which can be enjoyed very easily. From deer-spotting hikes in the Scottish highlands to explorations of the beautiful birds found at the White Cliffs of Dover, you can get in touch with the UK’s natural beauty in only a few simple steps.

Discovering creatures great and small
The natural world may be hard to spot when you live in the centre of a city, but there are beautiful examples of indigenous wildlife to be found across the UK. In suburban areas you might come across a city fox, hedgehogs, badgers or seagulls if you’re near the coast. On a trip to the countryside, you’re far more likely to encounter a wider range of animals, including deer, wildcats, owls and weasels. The BBC’s nature section is a great place to turn to for information about the animals of the UK and it includes everything from species guides to video clips and frequently asked questions – ideal if you’re hoping to familiarise yourself with the furry friends that could be hiding in your back garden. Another site that’s packed with great seasonal information and advice is UK Safari, which has also sections to help you identify different animals and a guide to nature photography.
Loving the UK’s wonderful wildlife
While you’re sure to spot a number of wild animals during any walk in the countryside, you may not have the chance to see as many species as you may like. Organisations such as the British Wildlife Centre are excellent for allowing you to get up close and personal with some of the UK’s lovely wildlife. Located in Surrey, it’s a wonderful spot for a wildlife-inspired holiday. The Wildlife Trusts are also an excellent source of information and could offer plenty of ways for you to get involved – including everything from suggestions for family walks to opportunities to volunteer.
