The new trend for scrapbooking
Scrapbooking is a hobby you’d be forgiven for thinking of as somewhat old fashioned, but it’s actually enjoyed a massive resurgence in recent years. As the world becomes increasingly digitalised, a growing number of people are seeing the value in unique and handcrafted ways of commemorating occasions.
This enthusiasm has shown itself in an increasing hunger for ways to preserve memories in a physical way and a growing number of people are looking for ways to create beautiful scrapbooks. These are generally made partly for the enjoyment of creation and partly to be handed on to children and kept as a family heirloom.
The art of scrapbooking
Crafting is a very popular hobby in the UK and scrapbooking is just one of the rising trends. As more and more people have become interested in creating their own, special homemade scrapbooks and similar projects, a growing number of shops and specialists have opened to provide the necessary materials and inspiration. Hobbycraft is one of the biggest and best resources for crafters on the hunt for affordable equipment. It offers everything from haberdashery supplies to papercraft items or jewels and beads. Another excellent shop to enjoy browsing is Papermaze, which caters specifically to scrapbook and paper crafters.
Scrapbooking’s social side
Scrapbooking and crafting have struck a cord with many hobbyists and you’ll find that there are some very strong online communities happy to share their latest discoveries. Pop onto the scrapbooking section of Crafts Forum to find lots of fellow enthusiasts or check out the latest posts on Trimcraft, a supplier that’s also keen to help crafters connect.
There are also a large number of workshops and training sessions that take place across the UK, giving you the chance to hone your skills and meet up with other crafters in person. Scrap Stars offers special retreats that allow you to take a short holiday dedicated to learning about the art of scrapbooking. Another holiday option is Just Scrapbooking, which offers weekend retreats or one off classes in the heart of Cornwall. For local classes, try looking at the notice boards in your library or community centres. You could even start your own scrapbooking group.
