How to reduce your laundry and keep your clothes fresher for longer
Product Review - Clothes Doctor
Clothes Doctor, an eco-friendly cleaning brand, is dedicated to revitalising cherished clothing items while combatting waste.
Through their efforts, they emphasise that extending the lifespan of garments by nine months can significantly diminish carbon, water, and landfill footprints by up to 30% each.
Established in Cornwall in 2017, Clothes Doctor initially focused on offering repair and alteration services for worn-out apparel, aiming to salvage garments rather than discard them. Later, in 2020, they expanded their offerings to include a line of natural laundry products such as stain removers, fabric conditioners, detergents, and clothing mists, enabling individuals to enhance the longevity of their clothing conveniently at home.
As someone committed to reducing clothing waste and maintaining the quality of my attire, I decided to test Clothes Doctor’s effectiveness. Would it effectively cleanse and refresh my garments, consequently reducing the need for frequent laundering?
Knitwear Mist, Cedarwood and Vanilla
I try to wash my knitwear as little as possible, partly because I find handwashing a chore, and drip-drying woolen garments in the winter is a challenge.
My jumpers and cardigans sometimes acquire a musty smell after hanging in my cupboard, but a spritz of this spray instantly revitalised them, imparting a freshly laundered aura. The ability to prolong the intervals between washes for my knitwear is a welcome relief, particularly considering wool’s tendency to lose shape or shrink with frequent washing.
Additionally, the mist is enriched with cedarwood, a natural moth-repellent, adding an extra layer of protection to my cherished garments.
‘Protect Me’ Natural Moth Repellent Scent Bag
By placing one of these aromatic bags in your wardrobe or drawers, you can effectively discourage moths from causing damage to your clothing. Infused with a blend of lavender, patchouli, lemongrass, and eucalyptus, these bags not only serve as natural moth repellents but also impart a delightful fragrance to your fabrics.
We had loads of unwanted moth invaders last year so I’ve nestled mine alongside my jumper pile in my wardrobe and the scent is wonderful and I hope that the moths will not be visiting again!
Tough Love Stain Removal
I sprinkled this chlorine-free powder on a blackberry stain on my T-Shirt, sponged it gently in warm water and let it soak for 15 minutes, before popping it in the washing machine using the Signature Eco Wash. Hey presto! The stain was gone! I like this natural stain remover as I am concerned that harsh chemicals will damage my clothes.
Signature Eco Wash & Eco Wash for Sportswear
Signature Detergent is a mineral-based detergent, allowing for a gentle formula that is effective at stain removal, and free from toxins and harsh chemicals. It is perfect for use at low temperatures, with a wonderfully refreshing, natural fragrance. I was surprised at the small amount needed to effectively wash a full machine load.
Sportswear and Synthetics Eco Laundry https://clothes-doctor.sjv.io/k03vgdDetergent provides a powerful cleaning experience for any activewear, swimwear, or outdoor sportswear. Scented with lime, peppermint, eucalyptus, and lemongrass to provide a refreshing and invigorating fragrance, is designed to fight strong body odours, remove tough stains, and eliminate chlorine. I tested on some sportswear after a tough Peloton workout and the activewear came out of the washing machine smelling naturally fresh!
I really like these products – great simple packaging, natural fragrance with no added chemicals which has to be good for my family and the environment. Nowadays, so many companies claim to be ‘green’, but they seem to blind us with ‘greenwash’! But not Clothes Doctor – I think they have got it spot on.
These products would make great gifts for environmentally-minded friends; My son-in-law works in the fashion business and owns a lot of cashmere so I will be gifting him the ‘Protect Me’, natural moth repellent scent bag and some Eco Wash for Cashmere and Wool Detergent for his birthday! We are also expecting our first grandchild in the spring so I think a bottle of Eco Wash for Baby will be added to my shopping list!
