My own glory

My own glory

My heart is in the heather, my memory is there,
You will see me in the sunset, for my spirit will be there,
See my footsteps hold my imprint, in the early morning dew,
Gone at last to my own glory, still forever here with you.

Never grieve now at my passing, for it was my time to be,
With my master in his glory, he will love and welcome me,
But remember of my being when I walked the path anew,
Gone at last to my own glory, still forever here with you.

Look for me within your heartbeat, see the love, all that you find,
That’s the love I hold within me, that is here, not left behind,
Think of me, but do not grieve me, hold my love in all you do,
Gone at last, to my own glory, – still forever, here with you.

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
