Do you hear me?

Do you hear me?

I heard you Lord when you called out to remind me of your day,
When you walked upon this land of ours and I followed in your way,
I respect all that you taught me Lord for it is what I was to be,
Yes, I heard you Lord when you called out, but Lord, do you hear me?

Do you hear me when I speak to you of the darkness that I find,
When half a shadow falls across the love within my mind,
When I ask for change to what we have within this troubled land,
But do you hear me now my Lord and do you understand?

Do you send this violence that swamps our trust with fear,
Do you give a blessing to the savage times on here,
Do you understand how much this makes me question you,
Or is the doubting Thomas here still doubting what you do?

Only you can alter this for we have lost our way,
You have the strength within you Lord to change this saddened day,
I listened Lord when you called out, I changed my misery,
Yes, – I heard you Lord when you called out, – but Lord, – do you hear me?

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
