In Like a Lion
In like a Lion, Out like a Lamb
March, that came in like a ferocious lion
It hasn’t left yet.
By the middle of April
it had only slept for a couple of days
which let the sun shine
And now the rain, unceasingly depressing
Falls in half-hearted spits and spots
Followed by torrential downpours
Making working in the garden, impossible
Not even April showers
Can force the Lion to go out like a lamb
He bares his teeth and roars
In a howling wind
Until all hope of an end to winter
is crushed beneath its sharpened claws.
We hope May flowers may make a difference
And fill the air with its perfumed scent
Calming the savage beast of winter
To let the summer bloom
April 2023
