Memories in verse
Memories in verse
Hopscotch, whip and top, knock the door and run
Some of the toys and games we played, oh boy did we have fun?
We didn’t have much money, so our toys we had to share
We’d play at shops and marble swops and skim fag cards in the air
Our mothers used to lose their lines so we could skip all in together
And run to take new babies out, no matter what the weather.
At Christmas we’d wake up early to see if Santa had been kind
And if he didn’t bring all the things on our list, we really didn’t mind.
We’d still walk proudly down the street, showing off our new toys
Usually dolls and prams, for girls, footballs and bikes for boys.
We had the freedom to play outside, and be safe without any harm
Even in winter we’d play in the snow running around to keep warm.
We didn’t need to have mobile phones or iPads to be able to say
Are you staying in tonight, or are you coming out to play?
Friendships lasted for many years, some even still strong now
We didn’t need technology to show us how.
