Ann, my Rose

Ann, my Rose

Fair lies the rose that owns my heart, Fairest rose I’ve ever seen.
The gentle touch of soft petals that fills my daily scene.
The spring dew brings life to your heart, gone winter’s dark night hours.
The warmer days that summer brings and with it comes the flowers.

On time your buds with colour display, like rainbows all around.
Your perfume fills the daily air, your flowers with nectar bound.
You are that rose that grows and grows, though petals tinged with age.
But don’t let your petals fall away, we’ve still got golden days.

(After 4 months my wife passed away and I extended the poem)

You were our guiding light ahead, you gave all that you could.
But now the light has been put out, we never thought it would.
The winter of your life has passed and with it no tomorrow.
For you’ve left a gap in all our lives and with it so much sorrow.

I am a proud Geordie and a Newcastle United supporter. I left South Shields in 1967 and came down to Colchester before finally ending up in Maldon, Essex. Married and divorced amicably, remarried in 1994, But unfortunately my wife died just before Christmas 2022. A couple of years ago I had to give up my pastime of Morris dancing as my knees wouldn't let me carry on. However I still keep up my other passion of Shanty singing, along with other folk type and Irish songs in our performances. I have recently taken up model making again, just finished my third and next having a rest and doing a jigsaw puzzle.
