My Little Girl

My Little Girl

Sssh, it’s just the thunder
My little girl
Pack a bag
Don’t feel sad
I know Daddy has to stay
But he’s keeping
the big bad wolves at bay
Don’t cry, don’t cry!
We’ll say goodbye

He’ll come back soon
And bring the moon
And we’ll eat it
With a big, fat spoon!
That’s more like it!
Giggles and smiles
Daddy can see them
From miles and miles!

I know your hungry
We do have bread
But we have to keep some
For the road ahead
It’ll be an adventure
To somewhere new
And don’t worry you’ll make
Lots of new friends too!

Now, go get your boots
The ones for walking
While us adults
Do a little talking
It’s thunder! Just thunder!
My little girl
No need to get
Yourself in a whirl

It’s fireworks
Cracking and popping above
It’s Daddy celebrating
All of his love!
Come hide! Come hide!
In our own secret place
I’ll brush all the dust
From your beautiful face

Sssh, now
And remember the girl
With the sweet violin?
You thought it was how
Angels must sing
I know, in the street
You saw her fall
But she just went to play
For those angels, that’s all

Now, put on your
headphones
And cuddle up tight
And we’ll listen to violins
’til the night
The whole world is watching
They won’t let us down
For one day it may be
Their little town

And Daddy will come
And all will be well
And we’ll all run away
From this unnecessary hell

Sssh, my little girl
Ssssh
Daddy will come…
Daddy will come…
Daddy wi…
