Before Christmas became Christmas
Before Christmas became Christmas
Bells are ringing, children singing,
Christmas carols in the snow.
But I wonder, are they thinking,
of a time so long ago.
When Joseph and Mary, having travelled all day,
as nighttime was falling, found no place to stay,
’till an innkeeper offered a barn filled with hay.
Before Christmas, became Christmas, Christmas Day.
Snow is gleaming, children dreaming,
of a joy they know will come.
Just as Mary, in that stable,
dreamed beside her newborn son.
A lone star shone brightly, to show men the way,
to Bethlehem town where the new savior lay,
and the angels sang sweetly proclaiming the day,
before Christmas, became Christmas, Christmas Day.
Children waken, presents taken,
from beneath the Christmas tree.
Just as Mary, in that stable,
received gifts from wise men three.
The child who was born in the stable that night,
would soon send his love, round the world like a light,
and the faith that he gave us is still burning bright,
that’s when Christmas, became Christmas, Christmas Day!
